Acadence

Acadence is a Regina-based Americana duo featuring the homegrown talents of Alexandra Barabe (vocals, kick drum) and Matt Cudmore (vocals, guitar, piano), whose passion for music brought them together in early 2015.

Focusing on acoustic driven music, the duo work with producer Jared Robinson of Nebulus Entertainment, and released their album, The First Chapter, in September 2015.  The selection of 11 original songs combines their musical backgrounds and abilities, resulting in a fresh and unique sound that is a welcome addition to the local music scene.  After being featured on Moose Jaw’s Mix 103.9 FM, their first two singles – Alibi and Black is the Colour – are now in regular rotation.

Acadence’s musical influences are varied, incorporating pop, country and folk elements into their song-writing, resulting in a smooth sound that appeals to a broad variety of listeners.  Although the two have different backgrounds – Matt is a self-taught musician and Alexandra a classically trained vocalist – they use this to their advantage.  Blending their individual strengths, the duo uses harmonious background vocals, carefully placed percussion and string ensembles to highlight their beautifully crafted melodies and thoughtful lyrics.  Acadence is quickly becoming known for their stripped-down approach to live performances which ties in well with their album sound, treating audience members to an intimate show that often has them clapping along and humming a new tune as they leave.

The duo has had a busy year together, performing at local festivals and events such as SaskTel’s Summer Invasion and Rosetown’s Family Harvest Fest, as well as live segments on CTV Morning Live and Global Morning News in Regina.  Highlights of their first year together include a third place finish in the Scotiabank Songwriters Showcase in Moose Jaw, and nominations for a Toronto Independent Music Award and Best New Act in the latest edition of Prairie Dog Magazine’s Best of Regina.
