"Accent Connects With Kinetics & One Love, Dylan Owen, and Benefit For New Single “Belief”"

Following the recent release of his first single, “Rapping For Change,” the New York City lyricist drops one of his best tracks to date.

It was the summer of 2012. I was a freshman in college and interning for Jon Kilmer in New York City.I’d go with Jon Kilmer to video shoots, carrying backpacks full of gear over my shoulder. I was hungry and living alone in Brooklyn at 18. Late in the summer we were with Jeremy and Tim of Kinetics & One Love, guys who became good friends over those few months. We were heading to this apartment to start filming a video for a lyricist by the name of Accent, a friend of the gang. The video has since seemingly disappeared from YouTube but the memories remain vivid in my mind. The apartment had all these comic books and action figures laying around. I remember it looking more as a creative cave than a home as I held the iPod playing the song we were filming for. Accent sat on the fire escape outside his window, telling his story to the camera. I was hooked on the obvious passion and street sense to his voice and mannerisms. I’ve been a fan since that day.

Here we are five years later in 2017 and Accent is gearing up to release a new project. Following the recent release of his first single, “Rapping For Change” and the corresponding documentary covering his time as a street performer, the New York City lyricist drops one of his best tracks to date, “Belief”. Featuring the aforementioned Kinetics & One Love, along with Benefit and GoodMusicAllDay favorite, Dylan Owen, “Belief” is an ode to the true hip-hop fans circling around the sounds of New York City and the surrounding boroughs.

All four emcee’s share their views on today’s society, chiming in with their thoughts of wisdom and effortless ability to ride the Skinny Atlas production just right. I find myself getting very deep and involved in my thoughts while this track plays, reminiscing on riding the 3 train to the city that summer or at my desk in that little apartment in Brooklyn, looking across at the city I was trying to make my mark in. There’s an element to the track as a whole that just makes you think. Where are we now? Where will we go? What’s coming of the world we’re living in today? Regardless of your own answer’s to those questions, Accent is here to clear the air and keep conscious rap alive and well.

“‘Belief’ is the devil’s advocate’s devil’s advocate. It plays both sides of the fence in a series of queries regarding humanity’s age-old curiosities. Genesis or the Big Bang? Adam & Eve or Evolution? Nature or Nurture? But it never commits itself to either side of any argument. Benefit, Kinetics, Dylan & I all bring our different identities and styles as rappers to the table, and you can hear that bleeding through the content on each verse.”

Accent’s new EP, The Last Lyricist is due for release next month and will feature some talented lyricists while continuing on with tackling important issues and giving the fans real, thought provoking music. Stay tuned! - GoodMusicAllDay

"PREMIERE: Accent Ft. KXNG Crooked & King Deco – "Starshine""

New York City rapper Accent garnered serious attention with his Skyzoo-assisted single “Paper Game.” The East Village representative follows up that track with the new cut “Starshine” featuring Kxng Crooked and King Deco. Produced by Judge, “Starshine” will appear on Accent’s upcoming free album The Last Lyricist.

Accent tells AllHipHop.com:

“Starshine” is about providing relief to Hip Hop fans with standards for lyrics and content. In an age where the easiest rap to access is dominated by whatever style or flow may be trending, it’s refreshing to find that there are still rappers who want to show their ability and talk about real issues.

It’s really crazy to me that I landed a collaboration with such a juggernaut of a rapper, and a member of Eminem’s Slaughterhouse team at that. Kxng Crooked’s delivery is so fierce, his already reputable tenure has obviously not affected his hunger. I just couldn’t get over how clean his verse was on “Starshine”; despite the intensity and speed of his recital he maintains control all throughout it.

As for King Deco, some of the themes that came up in the conceptualization of “Starshine” overlapped with key elements of what she calls the “decosphere” which I tend to think of as the aesthetic she creates with her imagery. In the hook, she almost personifies the North Star, offering a guiding light to those spiraling through a seemingly endless circle of desert. This idea is a metaphor for what Crooked and I speak more literally about. - AllHipHop

"WATCH ACCENT’S VIDEO “PAPER GAME” FEAT. SKYZOO & KINETICS"

New York City native and advanced hip-hop lyricist, Accent releases a video for his first single entitled “Paper Game”. Shot by Alex F. Ghassan. This is taken from Accent’s upcoming free album, The Last Lyricist, which is due in September. The song features two emcees known for their spectacular wordplay and lyricism, Skyzoo (of Barrel Brothers) and Kinetics (best known for his work as part of Kinetics & One Love). Listen to the song above as Accent tells the narrative of newcomer emcees in his poetic writing style. The song speaks on the success of new emcees who claim their success and status won’t effect the story they tell.

"ACCENT — CARELESS (FEAT. HUNTER STOUT & LYRIC LINCOLN) [PROD. DJ GRUMBLE]"

Accent is back and as lyrically sharp as he’s ever been, teaming up here with vocalists Hunter Stout and Lyric Lincoln (who we previously heard on Dylan Owen’s “The Window Seat”) for this upbeat breakup jam. Armed with an uptempo, sample-laden beat from DJ Grumble and a catchy hook, Accent takes the track the extra mile rhyming three 8-bar verses with more rhyme-schemes at work then most artists can muster in twice the space. His new mixtape, With A Little Help From My Friends II (see Kinetics’ part one here), is due out this fall, and is guaranteed to continue to merge his advanced lyricism with some more aesthetically-pleasing soundscapes. - Fresh New Tracks

"New Video: Accent feat. Skyzoo & Kinetics — “Paper Game”"

It's not every day a couple NY rappers get together for a game of Monopoly. This quirky new visual from rapper Accent comes in support of his track “Paper Game,” the first single off his upcoming project The Last Lyricist. The track features verses from rappers Skyzoo and Kinetics. Together the trio, like many rappers today, raise questions about materialism in the music business. The result is thoughtful and mellow track for when you’re feeling contemplative. Check out the video below. - RESPECT Magazine

"Accent, Skyzoo And Kinetics Set Their Sights High In ‘Paper Game’ Video"

Although the crispy-clean video for Accent’s “Paper Game” video is modest in concept, the song itself ascends for the sky.

Featuring stand-out guests verses from fellow NY spitters Skyzoo and Kinetics, the theme here is to get everything in sight, but stay humble along the way. Not only is that a concept we can firmly stand behind, but the gorgeous sax-based instrumental from producer Judge really brings the plush aspirations to life. In all honesty, the beat is more proper than prom attire and totally set everyone up for success.

Look for more quality cuts from Accent when his project The Last Lyricist drops in 2015. - UPROXX

Bio

I want to tell the real story of Hip-Hop again, as folk, of the common people. To bring real life to the music, to be that voice within the genre. A lot of Hip-Hop now is a fantasy and it's the music of our culture so we keep along with it over the years, we can't necessarily relate to it anymore but it changes our ideals so we follow it into our futures. Modern Hip-Hop is an odd catch 22. I want people to know there is an artist within their favorite genre of music that is one of them and speaks from the same realm of experience, there is an easily accessible rapper out there named Accent who tells their story, not the 1% within them that got rich as a puppet in the system.
