"Accepting Silence - My Search For You"

In a time when pre-packaged pop and andy punk crop up everywhere you look, I have to admit I was nervous when I picked up a copy of My Search For You, the debut album by Winnipeg's Accepting Silence. With a picture of the band's five young, male members on the back cover, I expected the album to sound like another Simple Plan or Good Charlotte.

Thankfully, Accepting Silence is a refreshing change from those other mainstream tragedies.

MySearchforYou, released in November 2004, is an interesting blend of metal, punk and good old fashioned rock.

What is most refreshing however, is the five track EP often reveals a depth that is surprising from a new band's first album. Tracks like Out Of View and Away From Herself demonstrate an unanticipated maturity, with intelligent lyrics that are backed by some definite talent.

There are times when the album feels like the most recent contribution of a long-standing band. That said, there are also times when the album feels like exactly what it is - a first album.

...Despite its shortcomings, My Search For You is a great first attempt. With this album; Accepting Silence shows there are some new bands striving to create real music in today's torrent of lollipop, don't-have-a-clue, pretending-to-be-something-they're-not industry creations. And that is refreshing, indeed.

Bio

There’s just something different about these guys. After one spin of Accepting Silence’s new ep, “Soma,” you’ll quickly understand. Right out of the gates, this band accomplished something that many bands strive for, but only few achieve - their own unique sound.

Within a month of forming, Accepting Silence had already recorded a demo and ventured outside of Canada to play a couple of US dates. Their debut ep, “My Search For You,” was released on the band’s own Succession Entertainment in late 2004, and has been instrumental in establishing the loyal following A/S is quickly gaining. The title track secured regular rotation on Winnipeg’s New Rock radio, Freq 107, and is still generating 200+ downloads a day on Purevolume. The band toured Western Canada twice in support of “My Search For You,” and has become a household name in Winnipeg’s all-ages community.

Fresh off of a national tour, Accepting Silence has a busy summer in store for them, playing shows for local radio stations, and various production companies, as well as promoting their new disc, "Soma".

In the fall, they will be heading out to once again tour western Canada, and are looking forward to January, when they will be flying to Europe (mainly Denmark), for 3-4 weeks of bringing their unique brand of Canadian rock to the Danes.
