"Consumer Value Deluxe- Area groups form co-op record label to produce & promote thier music."

There is power in numbers. That's something a group of local musicians are banking on with Consumer Value Deluxe Recordings. This week the co-op label releases new discs from Accidently on Purpose and The Whathaveya.

"These are officially our third and fourth releases," said Hoops, the leader of My Latex Brain and new side project, The Whathaveya. "The first two were My Latex Brain stuff."

"The whole music scene has evolved into a huge DIY thing," My Latex Brain drummer Roger Owsley said. "With the availability of computers you can push yourself for no money if you feel like getting busy on the blog sites and really getting yourself out there."

"Explodes!", the full-length debut from Whathaveya, is more straightforward than the sonic terror visited upon listeners by My Latex Brain, but it's not exactly easy listening. The disc features tasty garage punk nuggets, such as "Black Kitty" and "Yeah!," recorded with Hoops, Mike Belodayton (guitar, vocals) and W.M. Muthert (drums). The live version of the group features Hoops and Belodayton, with Brandon Jent (bass, vocals) and Paul Kennedy (drums, percussion).

"Miminari' is the unrelenting new disc from Accidently on Purpose, the local punk outfit featuring Greta Smak (vocals, guitar), Sheldon "Squid" Mutter (drums), Derek Gullett (bass) and the man simply known as Andy (guitar). The disc, recorded by Hoops, is highlighted by muscular punk songs with old school roots and a modern focus.

The new CDs drop at Canal Street Tavern on Friday, July 4, when The Whathaveya, Accidently on Purpose and Lollipop Factory perform.

"This is a big launch for Consumer Value Deluxe Records," Gullett said. "It's something Roger and Hoops have been doing, but we started talking about putting things together collectively and doing the label right."

"Instead of spending X amount of dollars on this by yourself as a band, everybody can throw in and push this name," Hoops said. - Dayton Daily News- Don Thrasher

"July 4th Miminari Release Show Review"

“Celebrating the release of their Miminari EP, Accidently on Purpose turned in a blistering set. With Gretta Smak prowling the stage as if some unknown force were threatening to take it from her at any minute, the rest of the band backed her up with interminable ferocity.” - The Buddha Den- Kyle Melton

"Review: Miminari by Accidently On Purpose"

ACCIDENTLY ON PURPOSE "Miminari" CD
Dayton natives (Accidently on Purpose) have had my attention for just over a year now. It's not to often when you come across a female fronted Rock band that actually Rock the stage with such aggressive behavior. I have seen this band live many of times and have always wandered why they haven't recorded...but the best things come to those who wait. This CD has brought out the absolute best of what AOP can deliver... MIMINARI is a perfect example of how ROCK'nROLL still lives in the hearts of us all and how it will never die. Gretta Smak (vocals/guitar) brings a slight soulful at times...but powerful presence throughout this disc while the rest of the band equally match up the rest of the missing pieces that bring everything together as a unit to make this band come alive. Powerhouse drums throughout...great guitars...driving bass lines is all that matters to create a great ROCK band and this band has it all. Most noted tracks on this CD have to be (The Drifter) and (AKA) that bring forth their most creative side of how this band does things right. So the next time your thinking about looking for something new from a local band...give these guys a shot and see them live. You won't be dissappointed. Dave Fishwick 08/03/2008

"Can you hear the prayers in your ear?"

Dayton, Ohio the home of Accidently On Purpose, a band that takes its surroundings and defines them as well as defies them. Danger, in sonic form. Uneasiness and curses backed with blazing guitars, red-hot bass, deafining drums and an electric shrill. Being a relatively new band that's hungry for a label, hungrier for an ear and downright famished for a chance, AOP takes every opportunity to attack.
Take Nomeansno, Shellac and Thin Lizzy and put a screaming banshee with tattooed sleves in front of it and stand back. This dog isn't rabid, but it's definitely mad. You can be the dead or the dying or next.

"The Battle for X Fest Heats Up!"

Twelve local bands began the month of June with a chance to perform at X-Fest 2007. But, as June becomes July only six bands remain with a chance to play the annual music festival sponsored by 103.9 WXEG radio.
Those six bands are Disagreed, Element, Fluwid, Never Ending Conflict, Ithika, and Accidently on Purpose. These bands will compete for votes in the final Battle for X-Fest. Only three bands will emerge with slots on the X-Fest stage.
The final battle of the bands is this Saturday at the Foundry. Music begins at 9:30 pm. Admission is $10 at the door and every vote counts.
I attended last Saturday’s semi-final at the Foundry and was entertain by 8 Kount, Korephase, Ithika, and Accidently on Purpose.
The winning bands, Ithika and Accidently on Purpose, both played solid sets and I am excited to see the two them perform again in the final.
My vote went to Accidently on Purpose because of their energy and originality. Ithika, however, had the largest and loudest crowd of all the bands and will be tough to defeat.
8 Kount and Korephase both shook the stage with slamming performances, but did not receive enough votes to advance.
Visit www.wxeg.com for more info on the last Battle for X-fest show and to hear samples of the bands performing.

"Punk rockers Accidently On Purpose to play free show at J. Alans"

Local rockers Accidently on Purpose are bringing back the spirit of the post/punk GBV/Brainiac rock.
This loud 4-piece shares the attitude and talent of those bands that put Dayton on the rock n’ roll map in the 90’s. However, they have one big estrogenic difference; lead singer/guitarist Gretta Smak.
“People don’t expect me to play the way I do or sing the way I do,” said Gretta. “I project myself as one of the guys even though I am very much a girl.”
Gretta and the boys that surround her (Salsa on bass, the Andy on guitar, and Squid on drums) have a long history of making noise in Dayton. The expansive list of former projects from these four veteran musicians include the Muzzies, Liquid Draino, Cigarhead, NoitAll, and the Invisible Rays.
“The bands we have played in before have really influenced us,” Gretta remarked. “It is like we have been around for a long time just in various forms.”
Accidently on Purpose recently finished a three song demo entitled Mechanical Hazards that is due for an April release. To hear a sample visit myspace.com/accidentlyonpurposerock.
The band will bring their raw and intense punk show to J. Alans this Thursday, March 29th. Hard rock band Once-ler is also on the bill playing a reunion show featuring their original line-up.
The show begins at 9 pm and admission is free.

Electricity intoxicates from the first strum to the final jolt, incinerating those who lie in their wake.
