"C.O.C. vs. M.O.T.O.: a Wednesday rock 'n' roll faceoff"

One benefit of living in a town that supports a flourishing music scene is the frequency of multiple worthwhile shows happening on the same night. This week it’s happening tonight, when two 30-year-old bands riding second winds headline respective shows across town from each other.
Each one boasts an acronym — M.O.T.O. (Masters of the Obvious) from Chicago plays Star Bar, and C.O.C. (Corrosion of Conformity) from Raleigh play a show at the Earl — but both were born and revived on two wholly opposite ends of the spectrum.

These days, the melodic garage rock sounds that M.O.T.O. summons and the punk-gone-metal fury of C.O.C. overlap more than just a little in terms of both style and fan base. Support from acts like-minded enough that they fit either bill doesn’t help the turnout prediction, either. Barreracudas and Tornado Town open the M.O.T.O. show, and Coliseum and Accidents round out the C.O.C. show at the Earl. (Rumor has it that Alice in Chains frontman William DuVall will make a guest appearance with Accidents.)

Maybe if folks plan accordingly they can hit both shows. This is a good problem to have, right? - Creative Loafing

"Atlanta Music News: Neon Christ Reconvenes for Accidents"

Accidents is a new bar-brawl rock 'n' roll band comprised of Atlanta music scene veterans J.J. Garrison of El Caminos (vocals), Paul McQuillan (guitar), Rob Knight (drums), Jimmy Demer (guitar) and Danny Lankford (bass). The latter two are also members of Atlanta's original hardcore band Neon Christ. For its debut release, a self-titled four-song EP, the group enlisted Neon Christ and Alice In Chains vocalist William DuVall, who produced the songs and will release the record via his DVL Recordings imprint. A video for the EP's lead track, "Crash Car," is floating around the Internet now. DuVall will also join the group on stage at the Earl to play a few guitar parts for the EP release party on Aug. 3. - Creative Loafing

Bio

Consisting of veterans of past ATL rock wars - guitarist/songwriter Jimmy Demer (Neon Christ, Gardens Of), bassist Danny Lankford (Neon Christ, Gardens Of, The Go Devils), singer JJ Garrison (The Go Devils, The El Caminos), lead guitarist "Irish Paul" McQuillan (Hope Sandoval’s solo albums) and drummer Rob Knight (Blacktop Rockets, Moto-Litas) - these guys walk it like they talk it.

Accidents' gritty brawl rock style provides the perfect soundtrack for good times and bad decisions.
