"Single You Out: Aceric – Sundowners"

I am constantly on the lookout for innovation in artistry and that’s why I am bringing you this new music from Ottawa native, Aceric.

The track, Sundowners is a joint that expresses in great complexity, the ups and downs of relationships. The wordplay is big on syllables, assonance, and the abstract. It all makes for an interesting listening experience.

If this is something you are feeling, Aceric’s EP, Ephemeroptera, dropped yesterday. - Hip Hop Dependency

"Aceric Ephemeroptera Review (2013 EP)"

I presume few will know what Ephemeroptera means, so let me first point you in the right direction – my second favorite track on this EP is the title track, sort of, Mayfly. Mayflies are something like dragonflies, which then leads us toward all kinds of allusions to be made by the title of this heady EP. Speaking of heady, “aceric” actually means “derived from the maple” according to multiple dictionaries, which is a fun little fact behind the moniker of this Canadian emcee who has embedded his heritage in his name. This is bookworm rap, near its finest. It would be hard to believe if Aceric didn’t list Sage Francis as one of his lyrical mentors, being it feels very much like Aceric’s witty, deep, intricate lyrics are akin to those of Sage, which is a huge compliment. That being said, it feels like Aceric is finding his voice here – to use the mayfly metaphor, he is a naiad, still developing and growing the wings which will one day allow him to soar. On both Sundowners and Mayfly we see the potential this young emcee possesses and what we are in for as he continues to pursue excellence in his craft. Listen. Enjoy. Share. - Soul Anchor Collective

"Aceric – Sundowners (Feat. Kilally)"

Major ups to Aceric for sending me this track. He reps Ottawa and his doing his damn thing. This track touches on the ups and downs of relationships. Listen. - 7th Boro

Bio

Born in Ottawa, Canada, Aceric is a new hip-hop artist whose style blends deft lyricism with honest themes. Splitting his youth between a straight mother and a gay father in Canada and Los Angeles, Aceric used hip-hop as an outlet to express his difficult childhood. This duality is found in the variety and subtlety of his topics, which often don't have a simple answer or perspective.

Aceric recently finished working on his premiere EP, Ephemeroptera, which drops May 21st. Enlisting the help of producer Rogus, Aceric wrote the EP while up in the mountains of Colorado, where he went a month before seeing another living person.

Ephemeroptera, which means "short-lived," details the metamorphosis of a young man, who starts out cynical and bitter, but eventually accepts his past and starts over, transformed. The EP covers a variety of topics, from love/hate relationships in “Sundowners,” domestic abuse in “Red and Blue,” to hedonistic temptations in “Whiskey & Cigar.”

The EP is available to download, but can also be found on itunes, Amazon, and Spotify. Aceric currently lives in Los Angeles.
