"North Jersey Notes: A Clean Getaway, The Compulsions, Will Killmore And More!"

I came across a pretty cool band out of Edison, NJ that really tickled my fancy. As I listened to each of the tracks from their EP, Grounded, I felt like I heard a hit with every song that I listened to. The name of the band was A Clean Getaway, and they play a poppy brand of hard rock. Their sound was so poppy that I can actually picture MTV using some of their songs as background music for their reality shows. From the EP’s title track to songs called “Home at Night,” “Souls for Sale” and “Distance,” you can sense right away how much potential this band has.

Forming in the land of the cover bands, North Jersey, this original quartet, is beginning to stake a claim as ‘one of the most exciting new original bands on the North Jersey music scene,’ according to their bio. The sound that they’ve created for themselves combines a raw hard rock sound with a groove, ala the Foo Fighters and Stone Temple Pilots, while their melodies give them the catchy modern feel of a Jimmy Eat World or a Switchfoot. Grounded really delivers quite a punch with a 5-song set showcasing this melodic, raw and groovy hard rock sound. A Clean Getaway is made up of singer Nick Pierro, guitarist Matt Litkey, bassist Rich Wronski and drummer Chris Szelag.

A Clean Getaway is currently working on their second EP, which they hope to finish and have a title for in the coming months. They’ve recently made it to the second round of the Break Contest, which they will be hoping to advance in at The School of Rock in South Hackensack, NJ on March 13. This is definitely a band to watch out for here in 2011. To find out more about them, log onto acleangetawaymusic.com. - The Aquarian Weekly

Emerging from the oppressive shadow cast by New Jersey's cover band scene, original hard rock quartet A Clean Getaway breaks through like a breath of fresh air as one of the most exciting new original bands in the Garden State.

Combining the raw, hard rock groove of bands such as the Foo Fighters and Velvet Revolver with the catchy modern pop sensibilities of The All-American Rejects and Jimmy Eat World, A Clean Getaway has arrived as a bright light in New Jersey's underground original music scene.

On their debut EP "Grounded", A Clean Getaway delivers with a 5 song set showcasing their affinity for merging heavy, hard rock riffs with infectious vocal hooks all while retaining their inherent musical properties. The result is a crossover suite of meticulously produced and arranged songs that showcases the band's versatility while retaining their signature sound.

"We take great pride in our songwriting, as well as our self-producing." states guitarist Matt Litkey. "It's an art form unto itself, to try to cram as many great musical ideas into a 3-4 minute pop song format. It takes experience, restraint, and the ability to edit yourself - to cut the fat. We like our tunes lean and mean, with just the right amount of ear-candy to keep the listener engaged."

In just six short months, the industry has already started to take notice on a local and national level. Chris Badami (Owner/Chief Engineer/Producer at Portrait Recording Studios and Producer for The Starting Line and The Early November) calls A Clean Getaway a "great band with a great sound", while Kevin Schmitt (Head Mastering Engineer at Overture Recording Studio in Pekin, IL) proclaims A Clean Getaway "a band with some serious talent" that crafts songs "with awesome melodies that have you singing along the rest of the day."
