Bio

We put this together in a week, and it's been crazy fun.
The math is simple Alexx Hantz( singer and up and coming leader for Odessa Christian Faith Center)
wanted to make something that would stand out among the music scene across the Christian music world. So she contacted long time friend
Jr. Mendes(Texas music scene veteran and current drummer for O-ren-Ishi)
who just so happened to also be!!! Drum roll please; her brother in law... "Calling in favors"
ha-ha...

So the idea hatched and discussions of a direction began . T he original idea was to stick to the book, play it safe, and ride the fence with so many other bands, doing the good work of delivering a some 2000 year old message;
But band members were needed. Now for those who don't know, the beginning of April is a
busy month for Christian musicians, and we spared no resource in contacting just about all of them.
Most with no luck, but Jr. Did manage to pencil in some time with one
Jack Elliott(guitar and bass player for Kingston Baptist Church)
It was about two and a half weeks til' the Rock the Desert deadline and still no guitar player and not
even the beginnings of a song. So now it was time for Jr. To call in a few favors... Jr called
Kc Salgado (O-ren guitar player )
to help write this tune, reluctant but willing Kc contacted
Josh Hayles (keyboard player and programmer for O-ren )
to join in this campaign. So, a week and a half from said deadline the song writing began,
but a whole new monster was born. It all started with the drums, "follow this, maybe this, that sounds like crap!
It's better this way." The discussion and original direction went out the window. When the picking and pulling
had started, and the flow and presence was nothing short of amazing. Studio time was scheduled with
Todd Brashear ( 575 Studios in Carlsbad, New Mexico )
on April 10th, and "One Foot at a Time" was brought to life. The final touches were all last minute (literally)
and that same day the vocals and lyrics were completed. Four hours in the studio later we depart from Carlsbad
with a rough copy of a song, a makeshift band and no name, but the general opinion was definite "I've never heard
anything like it."
Wednesday April 14th, holding onto the rough copy of 'one foot at a time' the decisions is made to find another
guitar player.Due to those last minute changes made in the studio the guitars needed harmonies, Alexx is then
told about a fellow church member looking for a band to rock with and
Brandon Chavez then steps into the picture. So a full band and a song later we still don't have a name. April
16th a name comes out of "nowhere." Brycie Mendes (Jr's wife) was on the name hunt along with just about every
family member and friend from here to South Dakota, when a friend of Brycie's, one Sara Cox ,pitches the name
'second' cause God comes first; to Brycie, who tells Jr., Who doesn't like it..... Who tells Alexx who loves it, who tells Jr
"It's Perfect", who tells her he'll think about it. After a time of deliberation the play on words sets in and the status quo
of man is made claritin clear. God is on high in his first place among existence and man made in his image set at his
right hand comes in at 'a close second.' so even though it wasn't exactly a week more like two and a half / three, the
time line is irrelevant. A close second submits it's song and story April 16th 2010 and we fully intend to change the
direction of the Christian music world through no work of our own ;)...
