RCMP Commanding Officer Curt Tugnum could hardly contain his enthusiasm Thursday as he talked about the effort training academy personnel and cadets put into producing a video to raise money for tsunami relief.

Tugnum, speaking at the video's premiere at the RCMP Training Academy, said he was "just about busting with pride" over the fundraising effort. He said he will ensure copies of video, entitled Together as One, are sent to Ottawa so "those responsible for the mounted police nationally and internationally see just the quality work that is done here."

The idea for the video came from Cadet Cathleen Morrison from troop 12 of the depot and, from there, troops 11 and 12 worked to make it happen. Trainer Martin Lemieux was responsible for writing the song and recording the music.

After being approached by a cadet with the idea a couple weeks after Boxing Day, Lemieux thought, "What better way for me to get involved than by contributing some of my music," he said Thursday. "I was approached on a Wednesday, wrote the song on Thursday and recorded it on Friday."

"The main goal here is to raise awareness -- the folks over there need money to rebuild their lives," he said. "So as long as what we've done achieves that particular goal, then I guess it's a success."

The video displays a collection of pictures from the aftermath of the tsunami with the backdrop of Lemieux's lyrics, which compliment the relief effort: "You can count on us, we won't let you down, whenever you need a hand, my brothers and sisters, we come together as one." Near the end of the video, cadet and officer uniforms come together with Lemieux for the chorus.

The money raised from the videos will go to the Canadian Red Cross tsunami relief effort.

My father was no rich man, least not in cash. But he told me to save my own, enough to make a stash. He bought my first guitar, taught me how to play G-D-C. And he said keep on searchin’ for perfect harmonies...
