ACROSS MIRRORS
Across Mirrors has existed in its current line-up since December 2007 when its members began a period of songwriting in preparation for their first gig at the University of Western Australia Tavern on April 16 2008. The band’s significant fan base can be traced from this performance, helped along by support from UWA’s Distinguished Order Of Metal (DOOM) Club.

Encouraged by their success and their fans’ enthusiasm, Across Mirrors then entered The Castle Hotel’s band competition in June, eventually taking out the first prize: production of 500 copies of a three-track single/EP.

Further experience gained during 2008 includes performances in the National Campus Bands Competition, more shows at The Castle and The Rocket Room, and recording of three original tracks for their EP in November.

Across Mirrors is proud of their first foray into the recording studio – which was a valuable first experience for all five band members. The band recognises it has something great to build on: attention to detail and a greater commitment to rehearsal time will be paramount at their next recording session.

Across Mirrors now rehearses twice a week, using this time to polish an already large catalogue of original songs. Musically, Across Mirrors aims to provide listeners with fresh music, mixing widely varying influences into a homogeneous yet progressive musical experience.

The band is always on the lookout for local gigs to help it hone its live performances and to share its music with an ever-widening fan base.

Across Mirrors attempts to find a nexus for its members’ separate influences, and always strives to do what is right for a particular song, rather than indulge in over-the-top progressive constructions. Influences are wide, and include The Mars Volta, Led Zeppelin, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Karnivool, 65daysofstatic, Meshuggah, Mastodon, Foo Fighters, Unkle, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Mogwai, King Crimson, Thursday, Thrice, and many more.

ACROSS MIRRORS: THE MEMBERS
Lawrence Vincent and David Scaife have been writing songs together since 2003, when both were in Year 10 at high school. The subject matter of their work has matured and broadened over time, capturing times of crisis, times of joy and the many states in between.

Lawrence has been playing guitar for six years, after playing piano, saxophone and clarinet at school. He has since added bass guitar, mandolin, and drums to his repertoire. For Across Mirrors, Lawrence primarily plays mandolin, bass and guitar, often accompanying Dave with backing vocals.

Dave has been singing for Across Mirrors in all its forms since 2003. He has also occasionally played keys. He took vocal lessons in 2008, and both he and Lawrence have seen a speech pathologist with a view to improving their vocal projection.

Tris Mamotte has played guitar for many years in different bands. He joined Across Mirrors in 2006 through a mutual friend and previous bandmate. He started on bass, but his creative style means he can fill a number of guitar-playing roles.

Kevin Kalani is a classical guitarist with a passion for heavy music. With eight years’ training, his technique is well utilised in Across Mirrors. Since joining Across Mirrors in 2007, Kevin has at times shared bass playing duties with Tris, allowing the band to make good use of his fingerstyle chops.

Tim Hodson joined Across Mirrors as drummer in late 2007. Like Lawrence, he is a multi-instrumentalist, playing saxophone and guitar. His energetic style and his John Bonham-esque set up are a feast for fans and a joy for Tim. He has been drumming for five years.
