Bio

With ancestry from Scotland and Ireland, and their love of the music, this band appeared inevitable when their paths crossed late in 2010. Master musicians Michael Morrison, Chuck Krepley and Dan Diviney got together for a few tunes and Across the Pond was born.

Across the Pond plays a variety of Scottish and Irish traditional folk music with their own arrangements often bringing a more contemporary sound into the music. From slow haunting airs, songs and love ballads, fast jigs, reels and polkas, and some faster contemporary pub songs, they play it all. And whether performing a concert for older crowd at the Scottish Society, or the younger generation at a late-night pub gig, they hold the audience and have them asking for more.

Mike grew up playing bluegrass, old-time and blues guitar, eventually branching out into rock and country. He began performing full time in 1995 with country rockers Latigo Smith before moving on to help form regional powerhouse Hired Guns. Nowadays Mike carries a full schedule of guitar students, as well as being a first-call, freelance artist for a variety of genres. Across the Pond is his first Celtic band.

Chuck started out as a bluegrass banjo player back in the 70s, and made a living at it for a few years. He eventually shifted over to Scottish style fiddling, learning the basics at John Turners Jink and Diddle School of Scottish Fiddling in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. Chuck has twice won first place in the Scottish fiddle contests at the Ligonier Highland Games in western Pennsylvania. Chuck loves history as well, and is a serious student of popular music of the 18th and 19th centuries. He has performed solo for many historical societies, presented on historical music at several universities, and was the music director for the award-winning French and Indian War documentary film, Washington's First War: The Battles for Fort Duquesne (Paladin Communications, 2003). Chuck was also the driving force behind the creation of a circa-1830 period orchestra at Old Economy Village, a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission site in Ambridge, PA. Chuck is a busy guy these days, currently performing with four Civil War bands and two Celtic/Irish bands. Chuck completed a two year luthiers apprenticeship at Bluett Brothers Violins in York, PA, and often performs on a fiddle of his own making.

Dan has been playing whistles and bodhran at Irish sessions since 1999. He was self-taught on both instruments and can't read a lick of music, although he attended workshops and school in recent years. He plays a Seamus O'Kane bodhrán (rack & pinion model) and Chieftain, Copleland and Susato whistles. He has played in numerous sessions throughout the US and Ireland. He attended workshops and studied under Rob Forkner (Metloef Drums), Tristen Rosenstock (Teada), Rolf Wagels (Cara), Jim Higgins (Altan), Eamon Murray (Beoga), All-Scotland, All-Britain and All-Ireland champion Martin O'Neill, All Ireland Champion Siobhan O'Donnell, Stiofan O'Brion, and 6-time All-Ireland and 2006 World Bodhran Champion Colm Phelan. Dan hosts two traditional Irish seisiuns at the Garryowen Irish Pub in Gettysburg each month. He recently began solo gigging, as well as formed two other Irish bands, Cormorant's Fancy and Poor Paddy.
