"Introducing Adam Johnson’s Journey: His Latest Single, His Rock-Country Sound and What’s Next in 2024"

Adam Johnson’s newest single “Blame It On Me” has been out for just over a month and just recently hit radio!

We got the inside scoop with Adam, his track and got to know him a little bit more.

Johnson pulled inspiration for “Blame It on Me” through the people around him. He saw that some people were going through messy relationships and were dealing with some major heartbreak.

But before writing the song, he was going through writer’s block (which most of us do). To get out of it, he found one of his favourite songs, rearranged the melody drastically, added his own emotions and lyrics, and BOOM! Came out of it writing this absolute gem (a little tip for all writers out there who may be experiencing some block).

“I’m super lucky I got added to Fresh Finds Country and Fresh Finds Canada on Spotify. I got added to Breakout Country and Next from Nashville on Amazon Music. The feedback has been really good on the song and it’s a ton of fun to play live. I’ll play it in a room full of people that have never heard the song and everyone will just sing along with me. It’s an absolute blast to play,” Johnson explains on how his listeners have been taking in the newest track.

When he found out he was put on the playlists he said he was super excited and surprised. With his Spotify streams, he noticed his streams jumped overnight and realized he was on the playlists and it pushed his track!

2024 is going to be a huge year for Adam as he’ll be releasing new music throughout the year. Not only that, but he wants to reach out to all his fans and visit cities to play some gigs! For all you Adam Johnson listeners out there, you’re going to be in for a huge treat because his shows are parties! He wants everyone to be singing and dancing along to his music, so if you haven’t memorized all of his lyrics yet, you still have some time!

If you haven’t listened to “Blame It on Me” yet, what are you waiting for?! Stream it on your preferred platform and be sure you follow him on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Also, be sure to be on the lookout closer to the end of next year for an album release! There’s no official title just yet but definitely something everyone will be anticipating.

More About Adam Johnson
Adam is greatly inspired by HARDY and for all the right reasons. Johnson says that HARDY is pushing boundaries and doing something different with the genre, which leads him to do the same. He wants to make sure he’s not putting out the same songs people have been listening to for so long. He wants to hear something new and unique, and that’s what he is giving his listeners.

With “Blame It on Me” he pushed the genre more into the rock-country side of the genre. He wants all of his songs to be authentically him, which is why he adds that rock aspect to his music. Fun fact about Adam: he used to play in a rock band before starting his country career.

Johnson was nominated for SCMA Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Emerging Artist of the Year. Adam says some of these nominations had him floored as the names that popped up on the nomination list were in the scene for a long time. He was excited to have been part of the list with other talented artists. - Front Porch Music

Adam’s journey in the music industry began during the pandemic when he unleashed his debut single, “Come On Let’s Go.” This debut skyrocketed to #1 on the Canadian Indie Country Countdown, setting the stage for a promising career.

Growing up, Adam was immersed in the world of rock, often tuning in to the sounds of Nickelback. However, his musical taste expanded as he found himself drawn to country artists like Dierks Bentley.

More recently, he’s been inspired by artists like Hardy, which tracks with his roots in Rock music.

"Saskatchewan country singer finds creative way to share his love for Craven"

Adam Johnson loves to sing the praises of Country Thunder.

The Saskatoon-based musician has been faithfully attending the festival in Craven for almost 10 years, calling it one of his favourite places on earth.

In fact, Johnson loves Country Thunder so much that he released a song last month called “Craven” that’s already garnering some local radio play and is certain to be overheard in the festival campground.

“We wanted to put the song out before Craven and give people something to listen to leading up to it,” explained Johnson, 27. “We wanted to capture the excitement leading up to Craven. The song kind of loses its (impact) after you’ve come home and your head is pounding and you’re thinking, ‘What did I do to myself?’”

The tradition is set to resume this week when Country Thunder makes its comeback from a two-year COVID hiatus. Accompanied by his trusty guitar, Johnson is eager to play the unofficial Craven anthem for anyone who’ll listen.

“I always have a guitar with me walking around to different campsites,” he said. “I hope to get a whole bunch more people listening to it. In past years when I’ve gone around playing it, I’ve definitely had a lot of interest in the song.”

Although Johnson is the man behind the microphone, the lyrics were written many years ago by his uncle, Mike Doughty, an Ontario native who visited Craven in the early 1990s. He ended up meeting his future wife Lesley at the festival and they even returned to Craven for their honeymoon.

How’s that for some musical inspiration?
“Basically, he has been playing that song forever,” Johnson said of his uncle, an amateur songwriter who “played some shows” in his younger days. “I started playing it as soon as I got into music and I’ve been playing it live for a few years. He had kind of been bugging me: ‘You should record it’ because it comes off so well in Saskatchewan. I finally got it organized to put the song out. I was really happy with how it turned out.”

So is his uncle.

“He’s really excited,” added Johnson. “He was back in Saskatoon two weekends ago. I was playing a show so he came out to watch. I actually got to play the song onstage with him.”
Johnson recorded the Craven tune with three fellow country singers from Saskatchewan: Ches Anthony, Cooper Tropeau and Darryl Anderson. The intention was to create the feel of “a bunch of guys walking around the campsite with guitars, goofing off and having a good time — and I definitely think we hit the nail on the head.”

Johnson is now putting the final touches on an accompanying music video in hopes that it might be done in time to debut at Craven. Country Thunder organizers gave their blessing to the project and even supplied some footage.

“I think it’s really nice that somebody cares enough about the festival to write a song about it,” said general manager Kim Blevins. “That’s why we participated with him and provided some footage. We can’t claim any direct affiliation because there is none but we have been happy to help out a fan to create some art that is reflective of our event. It’s really important to us that people make these memories and appreciate and enjoy an event so much that it becomes a part of their lives. That’s very special.”

Johnson has been writing songs for many years but didn’t get serious until the COVID pandemic. He has now released four singles, with one more on the way this summer to complete his first extended-play album.

One of the songs on the EP is Craven.

“I would definitely love for (the festival) to use it in any way possible,” he added. “Everyone I’ve showed it to has loved it. Obviously I’m a patron of Craven. It’s one of my favourite places in the world. My biggest goal with the song was just to share it. It’s awesome to (play) it out there and connect with everyone. I’d like to be able to continue to spread the greatness of Craven.” - Regina Leader-Post
