EverBlue (self-titled CD)

EverBlue is certainly a band that can stir emotional responses from the listener. The band is helmed by keyboardist-singer-songwriter Adam Exler, who composed all 14 tracks on the self-titled release. Supported by guitarist Nigel Taylor, bassist Russell Anguiano, and drummer Mark Pohl, all of whom also sing, Exler carves out pleasantly-compelling slabs of sound that seem bound to get many listeners humming along.

Adam is self-assured enough to open with a guitar-led charge in the opening cut, “Somebody Like Me,” which somehow has echoes of old Journey, but with an overall melodic-rock vibe like that of Hootie and the Blowfish.. This perception is doubly emphasized by the similarity of Exler’s voice to that of Hootie’s lead singer, Darius Rucker – and that’s a good thing, mind you, because we’re talking about some seriously evocative pipes here! Adam pounds out a lively piano on “The Way You Look at Me,” and he lays a soulful organ behind Nigel’s bluesy intro on “Travelin’ Time.” The traveling mood continues with the two-chord intro to “Hideaway,” that’s like the Allman Brothers classic, “Dreams I’ll Never See,” and the band again sounds like the Allmans, for moments, as they leap into “I Need You,” using those jazzy segues that have been employed by such diverse boogie bands as Charlie Daniels and Atlanta Rhythm Section. Exler and Taylor can jam, but they don’t seek to dazzle the listener with outrageous leaping licks; instead, they complement a given tune with appropriate emotive accents. “Yestergirl” breathes new life into a basic three-chord progression that you’ve heard before, but don’t mind hearing again, swaying to the rhythm. Same thing with “Take Me To Ride” – it’s not exactly to a brand-new destination, but the ride along the coast of convention feels pretty good, with Exler’s ringing piano chords accented by fluid licks from Taylor’s guitar. Fact is, this solid EverBlue album ought to leave a lot of fans feeling pretty good all the way around.

"Rock Her World with EverBlue"

Everblue

By Everblue

Independent

Pay Attention, Guys!

Got a girl who wants some romance but who wouldn’t listen to breathy, pseudo-operatic singers on a bet? When she gets into your car for your next date, make sure Everblue’s self-titled debut CD is playing.

If my husband had sung “Somebody Like Me” on our first date, I would have agreed to marry him then and there. “Baby’s Lullaby” runs a close second. One summer night, park by the shore, turn up the volume, and slow-dance to it right there on the sand.

Think she needs to be sure you love her? Don’t settle for a canned greeting card and a generic bunch of flowers. Buy a single red rose, sit her down, and play “No Pain” when you give it to her. Follow that up with “Hideaway” or “Take My Breath Away.” She’ll know that real men know how to rock a woman’s world.

‘Fun’ is the word for “I Need You (Come On, Let’s Go).” “Yestergirl” is a great road trip song. “The Way You Look at Me” and “Take Me to Ride” are good, true rock songs.

Don’t think this is the next over-synthesized music you’ll hear on the grocery store’s PA system while you look for broccoli—the speakers couldn’t take it. Adam Exler’s voice—a blend of John Fogerty and Mac Powell—and the smooth, tight harmony of the rest of Everblue make for songs that drench you in rock-and-roll like the sun on a hot August day.

This is a real-world blueprint for How to Sweep Her off Her Feet. Guys, are you listening?

"Debut CD By EverBlue Creates Major Buzz In The Music Industry"

1/10/07 - Los Angeles - Not just another band from L.A., with the release of their debut CD, formidable rock group EverBlue, is about to set the music industry spinning on its ear. Described as, "A sexy, soulful and emotion filled blend of passionate singing, masterful musicianship, and memorable songwriting," EverBlue is creating a big buzz amongst the music community with their special brand of bluesy rock and roll. It's not easy to find a band as genuine as EverBlue in popular culture these days when considering all the carefully scripted rises to glory and the falls that inevitably follow careers built on hype. This California-based band is poised to go from zero to sixty by virtue of a combination of finger-on-the-pulse songs, powerful live performances and new metropolitan adult pop sound. Evidence of the electricity that is surrounding EverBlue, with the release of their eponymous debut CD, comes with the nomination for three awards from L.A.'s premier music rag, All Access Magazine.

EverBlue consists of L.A. native Adam Exler on vocals, keyboards and "keeper of the flame." "I have always had a deep connection with music," says Exler, whose influences range from Stevie Wonder and B.B. King to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. Upon hearing B.B. King's "The Thrill Is Gone" as a boy of twelve, Exler declares, "I heard passion and soul like I never had heard before coming from a voice and guitar, which started seeping through my veins from that day on. I have been hooked on heartfelt and genuine music ever since!"
Russell Anguiano, who hails from Culver City, CA, is the band's bass player and background vocalist. His musical influences are deeply rooted in the pop-rock vein, with acts like The Beatles, Badfinger, Elvis Costello and Gerry Rafferty.
Guitarist Nigel Taylor is originally from the Isle of Wight in the UK and also handles the background vocals. Taylor's guitar influences span from Duane Allman, Randy Rhodes and Eddie Van Halen to jazz great Joe Pass (he also digs The Beatles).
Rounding out the quartet is Mark Pohl, who delivers the drum grooves for EverBlue along with some expert background singing. Another Beatle advocate, Pohl also listens and learns from drummers such as Keith Moon, Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio and Vinnie Colaiuta.

In a recent review of EverBlue's 14-track debut CD, music journalist Alice Loweecey praises, "Adam Exler's voice - a blend of John Fogerty and Mac Powell - and the smooth, tight harmony of the rest of EverBlue make for songs that drench you in rock-and-roll like the sun on a hot August day. This is a real-world blueprint for 'How To Sweep Her Off Her Feet.' "

DJ Terri at Seismic Radio exclaims, "I love the disc! I have dubbed it alternabluesrock… The vocals are especially appealing to me; sort of a gritty, smoky, smooth and emotive quality. You guys are talented!"

Highlights from EverBlue's new CD release are the opening track "Somebody Like Me," which features Adam Exler's honest vocal delivery and tight background harmonies by the band. The acoustic vibrations and soulful balladry of "Someday" draws the listener right in, while "Sunday Morning" displays an infectious 1960's feel, replete with Dylan-esque organ and chord patterns. The tasty guitar slinging by Nigel Taylor is apparent on "No Pain," as is the band's vocal prowess and songwriting abilities on track eight "I Need You (Come On Let's Go)."

EverBlue's independent debut CD can be obtained through CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon.com, Myspace and www.tdrsmusic.com as well as the band's official website. To support the release of EverBlue's new album, the band is in the planning stages of a major US tour.

"EverBlue"

EverBlue – s/t (Debut CD 2007)
Being a child of the ‘60s (ahem), my music tastes are deeply rooted in the music of that decade, the ‘70s and some of the ‘80s. Sadly, most of the ‘new’ bands of the ‘new’ millennium hold very little interest to me (although I have tried to listen, I just don’t hear anything). This is why I had very little expectations when a copy of L.A. blues-rockers EverBlue’s eponymous debut CD landed on my desk for review.
As I slipped the unusual-covered CD into my player and began perusing the liner notes, I was suddenly taken aback when the first strains of the music began pouring forth. First and foremost, what really caught my attention was the lead singer, Adam Exler’s vocal abilities – gravelly yet smooth, smoky and sultry; clearly unique, yet fairly reminiscent to Felix Cavaliere (Rascals), Tom Waits and early Capt. Beefheart. What I noticed next was the tightness of the band and the tightness of the song’s arrangements. Each musician has mastered their instrument of choice, with equally accomplished backing vocals. And speaking of the songs, EverBlue’s influences are abound – from The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to B.B. King – even Badfinger (and I believe my pal Joey Molland would appreciate EverBlue’s originality, yet nod toward better musical times).
Along with Exler, EverBlue consists of bassist Russell Anguiano, UK native guitarist Nigel Taylor, and Mark Pohl on drums. Highlights from EverBlue’s self-released debut CD are the lead track “Somebody Like Me,” the epic “Take Me To Ride” and the sixties-throw-back (replete with Dylan-esque keyboards) “Sunday Morning” with its infectious melody, vocals and groove. To tell you the truth, the album abounds with gems.
I can only hope that the music industry (as I have) takes note and gives EverBlue the chance to be heard, as they truly deserve it. In the meanwhile, I’m going to spin “Sunday Morning” once again as I can’t shake that catchy melody loose from my head….

Blues cross
The frontman for EverBlue has replaced his band with local trio the Pop-O-Matics

By Bill Locey
January 11, 2007

Once upon a time, there was this cool band that got even cooler and is now playing at a venue near you. More specifically, cool power pop trio the Pop-O-Matics has been playing lots of well-chosen Beatles, Yardbirds and other memorable songs from the '60s, '70s and '80s all over town, often inciting considerable outbursts of dancing. Further, once upon a time there was a cool blues singer, Adam Exler, who was singing his own songs, but something wasn't quite right.

The first band, not necessarily looking for another singer, and the singer, not necessarily looking for another band, found each other about a year ago. The result of all this musical math is EverBlue, which will make its local debut Saturday night with a release party for its self-titled CD at the big upstairs that is Nicholby's in Ventura.

So pretty much, it's the Pop-O-Matics with a new frontman. As a trio the Popsters were tighter than your boss, with exceptional guitars from Nigel Taylor, who also plays with the Shakedowns. The bass player, Russ Anguiano, is still in the Corsican Brothers and used to play with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. In the back, drummer Mark Pohl hits things and adds harmony vocals.

Exler has fronted EverBlue for a few years, but EverSmart, he replaced the old band with the new, and the lineup recorded its debut album over the last year or so. It's bluesy rock, smartly played with plenty of hooks. The singer, with a solid grasp of timing, discussed the latest during a recent phoner.

Q: What a timely return call — before the Bruins-Oregon State game. Now's a good time to talk about the band?

A: Yeah, definitely. I met up with Nigel of the Pop-O-Matics, and through a mutual friend, we started playing and rehearsing off and on the last year, and actually cut a CD.

Q: At first it was just you and Nigel?

A: Yeah. Nigel came because he was a friend of our drummer, but he didn't want to play with the band because that existing band was pretty unprofessional. So things fell apart and Nigel told me that he knew these two really great guys from Ventura — Russell and Mark.

Q: So it's the Pop-O-Matics plus you?

A: Pretty much. They're all my songs and the four of us arrange them, and now we've got this CD.

Q: You have a 310 area code, so who drives to practice?

A: We practice up at Mark's warehouse in Ventura, so I drive an hour each time to rehearse.

Q: Have there been any EverBlue gigs yet, or is Nicholby's going to be your debut?

A: I've had this band name for a few years. We kept the same name but just improved everything. With this band we played at Paladino's in the Valley. That show went really well. The booking guy called the next day and said the Paladino's staff raved about us and want us to play there again.

Q: How would you compare the current EverBlue with the previous players?

A: It's pretty much night and day. The other band was able to get through the songs, while Russ and these guys are able to escalate the material into just a solid sound.

Q: Where'd you learn to sing?

A: I grew up playing sports — I was part of a national title tennis team. In between sports, I took up the piano and discovered that was my passion. I started kind of late compared to the norm. After tennis, I was 18 or 19 when I went to music school. My favorite was B.B. King. The first time I heard him, I decided that was the real deal — Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, all those guys.

Q: Where do you guys fit into the blues scene these days?

A: Russell says we're ushering in a new, metropolitan pop sound. It's not like teeny-bopper pop and it's not like alternative. The songs are very memorable and everything is played well. We're working with a few PR people and we've had some test radio results, marketing with commercial radio — six of the songs got their highest rating and four others got follow-up single ratings. So it's been received really well even by commercial radio as a mixture of pop, rock and blues.

Q: But not to the point that you've ditched your day jobs?

A: Yeah, I still teach tennis full-time and all those guys do their own little thing.

Q: What's the EverPlan?

A: We're going into the first phase of a PR campaign with a few different companies. We're starting online, on terrestrial radio and in the press. We're trying to cover different bases, and hopefully support that with playing and the CD.

Q: How many EverBlue songs are there? They're all your songs, right?

A: Yes. Around 1992, I went to the Grove School of Music, which no longer exists, but at the time was internationally known. It was in the Valley, but at the time of the Rodney King riots, it closed down because parents saw the news and thought the whole town was being destroyed, so a lot of the kids were taken out. I've continued writing since then, but the CD is only about 10 percent of the songs I have. At first we just did the songs I thought they could learn the quickest, but I have quite a bit of material. For this project, knowing how well these guys can play and sing, I tried to utilize all their talents.

Q: So there's more to your night job than a relentless pursuit of girls and free beer?

A: Yeah. Originally I wanted to stick with sports, but music is where my heart was, so I took a chance on that. I was given the ability to do that, and my main goal is to write and convey what B.B. King said about the blues songs he wrote — that they are like "a cure for whatever ails you.'' I felt that songs I could write would make me feel better and maybe touch someone else, too.

Q: And the best thing about EverBlue is ? ?

A: I dunno, but with this group, it's just being in the company with the other three and being able to have the songs come to life in a way that 99 percent of the time is better than ways I could think of.

"A couple of Fan Reviews"

"Hi Adam, The CD arrived safe and sound last week and it is absolutely
awesome! It is the best music purchase that I have made in a long time.
Your music
is unique and very creative. The future shines bright for you and
EverBlue.
Thank you so very much."

Best wishes,

"Hey Adam,
Yes the CD got here last Friday I think it was, and I have been loving it. I actually had to burn a copy for myself, because my wife stole the CD from me when she heard it LOL and now I cant get it back. So now we each have a copy for our cars. I have actually been spreading the word about EverBlue to a lot of my friends and some of the boards I frequent. Well keep us posted about any tour dates in our area and keep writing those killer tunes."

Soulful, sexy and great lyrics. Great lead singer and harmonies.
It is about time a truly original sound combining blues, harmonies and just good music has come along. I especially am partial to 'No Pain' as it evokes a deep feeling in my soul. Great lyrics. What a change. They belong to a national audience. There is a treasure chest of material here.

This is one of my favorite new albums. The soulful delivery of the lead singer reminds me of the greats -- Leon Redbone, The Allman Brothers, Dave Matthews -- but with a twist of L.A. edge thrown in for good measure. A definite must-buy!!

EverBlue (self-titled CD)

by Rob Swick: All Access Magazine

Fact is, this solid EverBlue album ought to leave a lot of fans feeling pretty good all the way around.

great vocals. great music.
voice is kinda like "john fogerty". old sounding rock but modern sounding at the same time.
"Somebody like me" is a good fast paced rocker, good opener...love the mellow "someday".
they border into kinda sleezy jazz blues with "no pain"..great track.
love "our day will come" its a classic track.
this group remind me of 70s groups like "the cate brothers" and even "hoodoo rhythm devils".
some great guitaring in "take my breath away" a six and half minute epic.
This is a great album... great stuff!!!

The band may say "they're not just another band from L.A.", but, thankfully, EverBlue are no Mothers Of Invention, rather they're a roots rock band with one foot in the blues, one foot in soul and another (?) planted in the blue collar US rock world of Eddie Money and John Mellencamp. Which may make them seem like Jake The Peg, but actually makes them a very accomplished outfit.

Very much the brainchild of vocalist, keyboard player, songwriter and co-producer Adam Exler, EverBlue cook up a warm and welcoming sound, largely fuelled by some delightfully retro keyboard songs. But it's not just a one man band as the Duane Allman inspired guitar lines of Isle of Wight born guitarist Nigel Taylor add sprinkles of sunshine whenever they appear. Along with Taylor, the rhythm section of bass player Russell Anguiano and drummer Mark Pohl chip in with some heartfelt harmony vocals that add some oohs and aahs just in the right places.

They can turn their hand to virtually every tempo with the rockers, ballads and inbetweenies of a uniformly high standard. When they hit top form as they do on 'Somebody Like Me', 'Sunday Morning', 'No Pain' and the killer ballad 'Baby's Lullaby', it's like a warm sunny day shining down just on you.

EverBlue: EverBlue

Taking cues from the music of the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, EverBlue makes honest, passionate and real rock that (believe it or not) originates in Los Angeles – one of the least honest, passionate and real places on the planet. Were the quartet’s independent self-titled debut CD released in a different era, EverBlue’s timeless music could have propelled the band to the top of both the pop and rock charts. These songs are that good, deeply rooted in the human experience and bursting with broad, commerical appeal. Indeed, each of the 14 tracks on EverBlue — powered by Adam Exler’s soulful, slightly Southern-sounding vocals — becomes instantly familiar after only one or two spins, and each of them could be considered an album highlight. No two songs sound the same, despite being loaded with fun hooks, sweet harmonies and pure emotion. Just don’t try slotting EverBlue into a convenient musical category; the band’s four members bring to this album an array of influences that include Rush, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Badfinger, Third Day, Eddie Van Halen, Duane Allman, Gerry Rafferty, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Elvis Costello and The Beatles. A little Hootie & the Blowfish occasionally slips in, too, but that’s OK. After all, those guys became the biggest band in the land — if only for a short time.

Review by Nightwatcher

Straddling the line between modern rock and classic blues rock, L.A. based quartet EverBlue reaches back into the past and pulls it into the present on their self titled debut album. The 14 tracks contained here feature strong songwriting and stellar playing by all involved; with influences ranging from Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers and Badfinger you know their hearts are in the right place. Reminiscent of a more concise Widespead Panic at times, this is one of the rare cases where it'd be great to hear the band stretch out a bit more, as they certainly possess the technical skills to do so. Vocalist Adam Exler has the necessary grit to get these songs across while UK born guitarist Nigel Taylor impresses throughout. This is a band who seem to be stretching the boundaries, leading to a very satisfying first effort. And know this, Mr. Exler has another 120 songs in his back pocket...

EverBlue – s/t (Debut CD 2007) UK Review

EverBlue ushers in a sexy, soulful and fresh new sound that utilizes Rock, Pop, and Blues elements. The results of this potent stew has been dubbed "Metro Rock" and "Alternabluesrock".
Adam Exler is the founder and brainchild of EverBlue. Adam is the lead vocalist, songwriter, handles the keyboards, and is "keeper of the flame." "I have always had a deep connection with music," says Exler , whose influences range from Stevie Wonder and B.B.

Thank you for your time and be well. Peace.
