"Benefit Concert"

“In the news lately, there has been so many accounts of teenagers causing trouble, breaking the law, and physically assaulting others. Thank you to these young men for being such positive role models. Cedar Rapids should be proud of these future leaders of our community.” -Sherrie Duval--The Gazette- - The Gazette

"The Barbeque"

“From rock, to blues, to pop, Adam Hoffman and the Tallboys’ new album is incredibly original and creative. As the audio engineer behind the new album, I was a bit nervous when I heard how young these guys were, but it didn't matter. They were a mature group of talented musicians, creating music anyone can relate to.” - Elliott Pollitte - Metro Studios

Bio

I grew up in Cedar Rapids, IA, and music was an integral part of my life. My father was a talented jazz pianist who encouraged me to do everything musical. Everyday there’d be a record playing throughout the house and I’d come home to the speed of Bela Fleck, the smooth soul of B.B King and Buddy Guy, or the vibrant tones of Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.

I started playing the piano at the age of six when living in Colorado Springs, CO and just like all of the other kids, I wanted to play guitar. When I was eight, we moved back to Cedar Rapids, IA and my dad bought me a baby acoustic - from that point on, there was no turning back.

For the majority of my teenage years, I strictly focused on guitar. I would buy a new album and try to learn it on my acoustic. As my rhythm guitar skills got better, I became obsessed with the blues. I could sit for hours sounding out Hendrix frills, trying to bend like Albert King, or trying to be as smooth and subtle as Clapton.

But as the years passed, and the blues was still with me, I began to truly focus on songwriting. I started to incorporate pop into blues in a very unique sound. I am currently studying poetry from Pulitzer Prize winning author, Dr. Natasha Trethewey at Emory University as well as classical and jazz guitar from Dr. Brian Luckett. I have studied classical finger picking under American Fingerstyle Guitarist Steve Armstrong, and studied voice for five years under Broadway composer and dear friend Robert Lindsey Nassif.

My music has been described as rock/pop/blues. It is passionate, sincere, energetic, and technical, sometimes described as having a sound similar to Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Eric Clapton, and Ben Harper. When living in Iowa, I played at coffee shops and various venues in the area. Highlights have included playing at CSPS in Cedar Rapids, IA, and at the annual BBQ Roundup - on the stage with The Fabulous Thunderbirds. I have also created, headlined, and organized an annual benefit concert for the HD Youth Center in Marion, IA raising over $3000 and 1000 canned goods over two years.

I have released three albums. Two of which were solo albums, and one of which was recorded with my band, Adam Hoffman and the Tallboys at Metro Studios (www.metro-studios.com). My two solo albums were written, recorded, and mixed in my basement studio in Cedar Rapids, IA. Coming Around, my solo record released in 2005, is for sale on iTunes. The Barbeque, released by my band in 2006, is for sale in Barnes and Noble Bookstores in Iowa.

At this point in my life, I am living in Atlanta, GA attending Emory University. I am looking for solo acoustic and/or electric gigs all over Atlanta. No PA is necessary and I can provide microphones, amplification, DI’s, extensions, and chords.
