"Opening for Wyatt Cenac"

Published: Wednesday, September 9, 2009

On Sunday, Aug. 30, students were treated to a surprisingly entertaining performance by two professional comedians, for free. Comedy headliner Wyatt Cenac, senior black writer/correspondent on “The Daily Show, and senior producer of the show Adam Lowitt eased the crowd into a promising new school year.
Warming things up, Lowitt demonstrated his talent as a stand-up comedian. In addition to producing on “The Daily Show, Lowitt currently hosts and produces “IT IS IT, a bi-monthly comedy show on the Lower East Side of Manhattan at Pianos which has featured such performers as Louis CK, Demetri Martin, and Mike Birbiglia. - By Justin Wilder, A&E Editor

"Opening for Rob Riggle"

The comedy committee had our first big show of the year on Friday with Rob Riggle, from the Daily Show. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the event a success! We had a huge turnout, which means that in the future we will be able to bring more exciting and big comedians to campus. I especially loved the huge graduate student turnout we had at the event! Rob was hilarious, as was his opener, Adam Lowitt. Adam actually is one of the supervising producers for the Daily Show (little known fact) and was able to impart to our students a few pointers on how to get started in his line of work. Both Adam and Rob were incredibly nice, and loved the campus so much that they volunteered to do a Q and A after the show. - UCAB Life

"Opening for Demetri Martin"

At the other colleges Demetri Martin performs at, they have banners in their basketball arenas that read “Champions 1943.

At UF, it’s a little different.

“I come here, and it’s just a calendar of every year ever, Martin told the crowd of about 5,200 at the O’Connell Center Tuesday night as he pointed to the rafters.

Martin, who has contributed to “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, currently has a show on Comedy Central called “Important Things with Demetri Martin.

Martin’s friend Adam Lowitt, a producer, comedian and 2002 UF grad, opened the show.

Lowitt began his act by making fun of the midtown bar BALLS.

“I have traveled all over the country, and this is the only town I’ve ever been to with a bar named BALLS.

“You can type BALLS into Google Maps, and Gainesville pops up, he said. “Even the guys at Google are like, ‘Fuck, Gainesville rules.’

He also unfurled an enlarged copy of a menu for a Chinese restaurant he ate at one day. The first item listed was Bull Penis for $5.50. He unrolled the menu further, revealing a large drawing of a woman with a sprawling octopus on her groin.

“I’m not sure if I want the noodles or the bull penis, he said, “as long as it’s not a woman being eaten out by an octopus.

Martin then took the stage and charmed the crowd with his deadpan oneliners, crude marker drawings and musical comedy. - By THOMAS STEWART, Alligator Writer
