Bio

Adam Melchor was never that good at anything. At least that's what he thought when he was growing up. He couldn't hit a baseball. He couldn't tackle anyone. He could barely make a layup (although his crossover was dope). Adam's only outlet to express his lack of interest in anything the school would provide as extra curricular activities was to write about. He would complain to a notebook everyday, until one day, decided to act on his impulse and purchase an acoustic guitar. After practicing 9 to 12 hours a day for a month and a half, he was finally able to take his creative skill set to an instrument as well. The guitar turned into Adam's journal, leaving the notebooks underneath the bed, covered in dust and memories.

Ever since that summer, Adam has been hooked. If he is the fish, music is the bait he keeps on biting. He will never learn. They only way to get revenge on the music that holds him prisoner is to perform it. Adam has been performing since his freshman year in high school, with various different bands and ensembles. He has played at The Stone Pony (NJ), Maxwell’s (NJ), 169 Bar (NY), and countless basement/apartment shows around the tri-state area. Adam has even played jazz piano on the rising (literally) stage at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Disney World.

Due to different career paths, Adam set out on the solo track in his 4th semester of college, which happened to be 2012. His goal was to write as much music as possible and say yes to as many things as he could. Adam found himself writing music for plays, in fact he wrote original music for 3 productions at Montclair State University: The staged reading of “8” by Dustin Lance Black, “A Red Herring” which was an original play by a student playwright Noelle Cristiano, and a staged reading of Tony Kushner’s “Angels In America.”

The open mic circuit also provided Adam with a direction he didn’t think was possible. After testing the waters of various open mics around NJ and NY, Adam obtained a residency at Grimaldi’s Italian Restaurant in Hoboken, NJ on Washington Street for every Saturday and is also an artist in residence at the No Fun Bar on Ludlow St. in the lower east side of Manhattan every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.

Adam currently attends Montclair State University for Vocal Performance. He studies under Dr. Stephen Oosting and in classical music he is a Bass-Baritone. He has been in 2 operas, in both of his semesters studying classical voice, and will be having his Junior Recital in March of 2013, along with a senior recital in 2014.

Along with songwriting, performing and composing for new music theatre, Adam is an established slam poet. He is a proud member of the MSU Slam Team and is an active participant in the Speaking Through Silence poetry club at Montclair State University.

Adam’s songwriting is a fresh melting pot of home cooked soup, waiting to coat your throat and make you feel a little more comfortable in this head cold we call life. His blend of acoustic broth and espresso bean vocals make for an awakening experience where a listener can not only feel the music, but feel the lyrics forming a coexistence with the music: a total package, that can only be healthy.
