These next two weeks on Jersey Rock we are gonna do things a little differently. As many of you know by now The Rat is all pumped up about our upcoming Rat Fest '08 with Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd on Saturday, August 30th at the PNC Bank Arts Center. With that in mind we have, once again, decided to hold a Rat Fest Band Search. So over the course of the coming weeks we will be playing some of the bands that are in the running for this great gig.
7/15-7/17- We start off with a band that I was fortunate enough to catch at Joey Harrison's a couple of weeks ago. Jeta Grove lit the joint up with their very infectious brand of rock and roll. Driven by a great rhythm section with tasty guitar licks thrown in as well as some well thought out lyrics. Jeta Grove is exactly the kind of band that we're looking for at Rat Fest!

"Faint Young Sun Paradox" feels like Jeta Grove's first album. It's the initial release the Lakewood-based group — which has a full-length record and two EPs to its credit — has recorded with a producer.
Retail chains are part of the distribution plans, "and it's going to be in shrink rap," vocalist-guitarist Adam Binder said while calling from his Lakewood home. "We never had that before. I'm doing all the work with distribution. I'm going to make sure it gets out there. A lot is different this time, and we're lovin' it. We had our other CDs in mom-and-pop stores. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's great. It's just that we're ready to play with the big boys."
The guitar-driven rockers, who will showcase tracks from "Faint Young Sun Paradox" tonight at Joey Harrison's Surf Club in Ortley Beach, have crafted a disc filled with tunes that are heavier and more melodic than its debut disc "Sonic Reveries." There's a depth to "Faint Young Sun Paradox" that's just lacking in prior tracks."I'll be the first to admit our other material is one-dimensional," Binder said. "We've taken a big step with this album."
Binder credits Clarksboro-based producer Joe Pizzaro for the band's sonic development. "He just knows so much about music, and he taught us so much," Binder said. "He coached me vocally, and that's why there's three-part harmonies on the album. He helped our drummer (Matt Hitchens from Beachwood) with subtle things. The most important thing might have been that he helped us with the emotional impact of the music. That was huge for us. We were like a bunch of sponges with him."
Jeta Grove's plan to move to the next echelon started with Pizzaro, and the next step is performing during one of the biggest holidays of the year. "There couldn't be a better record release party date than the Fourth of July," Binder said. "Everyone will be out in a good mood."
The group, which also includes guitarist Dan Powlesland and bassist Tim Daley, both from Toms River, hopes to land a spot on "Ratfest," 95.9 WRAT-FM's Aug. 30 concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.The Shore-based station will add a local band to showcase at the event featuring Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd."We didn't win it last year, but we got on with a two-song demo and we were finalists," Binder said. "This year, we're in it to win it. I don't want to sound cocky, but I'm pretty confident about our chances this time. We want to get to another level, and I think we're ready."

Calling Central Jersey home, Adam Binder is the type of artist who writes from his life experiences as well as his heart. Adam’s musical story embodies the struggles he has lived through. Each of his songs can be interpreted in a variety of ways by the audience. As an artist who wishes to reach and relate to as many people as possible, Adam strives to put his music in the hands of those who listen to it by allowing them to derive their own meaning of each song.
Adam began his musical journey at age 12 when he convinced his parents to let him buy a beat up used electric guitar. By age 14 he was recruited to play in a band with members who were 4-7 years his senior.
In 2004 Adam joined forces with a new group of rockers to become vocalist and guitarist in Jeta Grove. The band achieved air-play in the tri-state area as well as on internet radio stations and received several positive reviews from different publications. Making the semi-finals in competitions such as Ratfest, Emergenza and MTV2 Rock Battle NYC were some of the band’s finest moments.
From 2006 to 2007 Adam served a brief stint as the drummer in the band Charlie In The Box. The band would often open up for Jeta Grove, and Adam would play music all night.
Recently Adam teamed up with producer Mike Fevola to create his debut solo CD “On This Road”. This project has only enhanced Adams creativity, being that Adam plays a good deal of the instruments on the album. Assisted by Fevola the disc takes a shift toward a more radio-friendly sound.
Adams growth to this point is matched by his willingness to always work harder at achieving his dream.
