"Just Like It's Always Been EP"

Rock 'n' roll and the piano mix so well. Ray Charles knows it. So do Elton John and Ben Folds. Adam Pringle may well be the next addition to that list. His quartet revolves solidly around his skill at tickling the ivories. He's been playing for about 20 years and performing diligently for 10. In those years he has honed his songwriting skill to a snappy, humorous sort of "balladeering" that is utterly catchy and winsome. - Recoil - Grand Rapids

"Pringle turns to piano for inspiration"

GRAND RAPIDS -- Adam Pringle grew up in a musical playground.

When Pringle was 4 years old, his parents opened a music store in his hometown of St. Louis, a small community in Central Michigan's Gratiot County. While a good portion of Pringle's peers passed their early years being entertained by Super Nintendo systems and episodes of "Saved By The Bell," Pringle was busy immersing himself in music.

"I grew up with it, I was surrounded by it," Pringle, 25, said. "You walked into the store and were surrounded by pianos on the left and on the right."

Not surprisingly Pringle took to the ivories with gusto. He spent the past 20 years honing his skills and style, studying music at a small college in Minnesota and playing in a rock band.

The pianist moved to Grand Rapids three years ago in hopes of establishing himself as a professional musician, and he appears to be doing just that. He makes a living playing piano four nights a week at Mojo's, a dueling piano bar in downtown Grand Rapids. Though he admits it's a fun gig, he said the "Piano Man/Brown Eyed Girl/Sweet Caroline" repertoire doesn't leave room for much creativity.

"It's my job; the other project is my outlet," Pringle said.

The project is an arsenal of original modern-meets-retro pop/rock/jazz/boogie music, which he performs with his eponymous band, comprising Pringle on vocals and piano, Brian V. on drums, Chase Jackson on guitar and Ian Flaherty on bass.

The band started off in typical fashion, playing in small bars and coffeeshops, and quickly worked its way up the local-band food chain, to an opening gig for Gin Blossoms slated for Saturday in The Intersection.

"It's a good opportunity for us," Pringle said.

After this weekend's show, the band plans to focus on recording new material in a do-it-yourself style. Pringle suspects it will be a smoother process than his studio-produced 2005 album, "Just Like It's Always Been," which he recorded with a different band.

Listeners can expect the new album to follow some of the same lines as "Just Like ... ," an album he deems "autobiographical." Pringle's "bouncy and snappy" writing style is honest and blithe, often taking a lighthearted approach to a variety of subjects.

But don't get the wrong idea -- Pringle knows how to rock.

"Standing Tall"

..A band to keep an eye on...

Pringle pounds the keyboard with authority and malice commanding every note as if it were written in his soul and evoke in a manner as if saying. "my range will not be limited."...

Pringle's vocals are certainly something to be in awe of, at times smooth and sultry , as found in the song "Wishing" and at other times pure power as in "Thursday Girl." - On the Town Magazine

Bio

Adam's relationship with music was ingrained in him at a young age, with his parents opening a music store in St. Louis, Michigan when he was four years old. Being exposed to old blues and ragtime, in addition to artists like Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, only helped to encourage his piano playing at a young age. It was after his first performance in a talent show, when hearing the roar of the crowd, that he realized that music was to be his calling.

While studying music in college, Adam met drummer Brian V. in the school's jazz band, where they recognized a love of music in one another. After many performances together in Minnesota, Brian decided to join the Army. This prompted Adam to begin a flourishing solo career, performing with a rock band all over Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan for four years.

In January of 2006, Adam and Brian reunited, and were joined by guitarist Chase Jackson and bassist Ian Flaherty. They fused their musical backgrounds to create a fresh new sound, and have since been performing locally in Grand Rapids and Michigan, most recently performing with the Gin Blossoms at the Intersection. They have tentative plans to rock faces off during a Midwest college tour.

Adam also takes the stage every week in Grand Rapids and throughout the country, garnering a loyal fan base along the way that is cultivated through not just his stage show, but also various podcasts, radio play, and the world wide web, with his most notable onstage performance featuring jazz veteran Maynard Ferguson.

Presently Adam is releasing a new studio album, Just Like It's Always Been. Bringing his mix of retro and modern pop music with jazz and boogie frills to the table, this album is ten years in the making, allowing listeners to fully identify with his passion for music and connect with him emotionally. Combing toe-tapping rhythms, catchy melodies, and a hearty helping of silliness, Adam has the uncanny ability of taking serious subjects and putting a light twist to them. However, whether or not the song is serious, or ridiculous, it does not lack passion. "Passion is the basis for each of my songs," Adam says, "but I'm not afraid of having fun with the music I write."
