"MIND BLOWING TALENT! "Meat and Potatoes" - CD Release Show Had The Audience Screaming for More!"

Article Contributed on: 3/24/2011 1:31:44 AM

How does another musician with broad experience communicate complete admiration and yes, "JOY" when discovering a hidden treasure trove of talent?

Let me give it a try!

"Blown Away!"

"Makes me want to stand on a chair and cheer shamelessly!"

"Best Kept National Secret."

"FINALLY! Superb diverse and multi-talented musical combinations that are so edgy and multi-layered that you cannot believe what they are pulling off!"

That is what I thoroughly enjoyed on Tuesday evening at Nissi's in Lafayette, CO. A fun, trendy and eclectic venue for excellent food and great music.
To hear a sampling of some of the most amazing talent around, go to Adam Rey's Website and listen to his "just off the press" CD. Once you hear a bit, you will absolutely want to go to a live show and soak in the lush atmosphere of super talent.
The name of the CD released is called, " Meat and Potatoes."
I would add to it...
..."And the richest most savory gravy that you will ever soak up your fresh baked bread with." It gets better and richer with every song presentation!
Adam Rey is an accomplished and stylistically diverse guitarist that has been performing and touring for 35 years in the western US and since 1991 here in the Colorado Rocky Mountain Region. Celebrating the release of his first solo CD of all original compositions "Meat & Potatoes", it is an eclectic combination of guitar driven instrumental Rock/Jazz/Fusion/Blues stylings with maybe a little 'Country' thrown in the mix. It features some of Colorado's best local musicians lending their talent to the project and the live band. Adam has played at Nissi's many times as lead guitarist for Vintage Rock 'n' Soul, Stray Dog, Diamonds Are Forever, Billy Sprague, Hit List, Retta Yarbrough and others and he felt Nissi's would be a perfect venue to do a release show!
During the live CD Release show, the saxophonist Dave Thrush who has toured 5 Continents since 1976, including Asia, North America, South America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand and Recorded on Grammy Nominee "Meltdown" (Steve Taylor) was so wildly accurate in every nuance and note that the guests were yelling during his solos! I have NEVER heard such a gifted saxophonist anywhere.
It was a surreal and supernatural experience to hear such a group of diverse and talented musicians.
The St├ęphane Grappelli jazz styling and "genius" type of talent that was displayed from the violin/ fiddle/ "string singer" Desiree Suarez who is also a first chair Violinist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, was so ethereal and skilled that the room vibrated with a thrilling warmth and depth rare to find in the music world.
None other than the "Keyboard King" - C.J. Lewis of Digital Revolution, masterfully played the keyboards - with a liquid and streamlined skill. The size of this man's reach on keys is mind-boggling. Chords and runs and layering of sound undergirded the stunning nuances of the multi-talented rotating team of bass players, Frank Baier, Blake Eberhard, Mark Allen, Joseph Shull, (all these guys taking turns on music sets were like "wild runners" as they moved with lightning speed and made it all look so... cool.
The drummers Mark Mariano "The Kidd" and Bob Hansen played with amazing power and yet, never overshot the level of volume needed to make the percussive points they tactically articulated. Loren Brindley on the acoustic guitar weaved and knitted in amazing laid back sound textures that simply "oozed" rythmic support.
Folks. Get to one of the live concerts!
It will be one of the very very best you have ever enjoyed.
These folks are beyond skilled.
They love what they do; They rehearse and improve upon perfection each and every performance, and the greatest attribute of note about them all is...

... Stunning humility.

My guitar playing and my compositions are influenced by just about everything that has crossed my ears in my life. Some examples would be Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Mike Stern, Danny Gatton, Jean Luc Ponty, The Dixie Dregs, TV & motion picture soundtracks, rock, classical, jazz, blues e.t.c.!!!
I am a 1985 graduate of Hollywood California's Musicians Institute and have been a pro guitarist since 1975.
