Bio

Adam Rodgers was born on December 21, 1985 in Houston, Texas. Growing up, Adam was exposed to a vast array of musical influences. Most of which were soul and R&B singers from the 60’s and 70’s such as Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and Smokey Robinson. From a young age, Adam was enamored by musical instruments and loved to watch his older brothers practice the trumpet and baritone. Anxious to get his hands on an instrument, he couldn’t wait to follow in his brothers footsteps and join the middle school band. After two years of playing the trumpet, he set his musical sights elsewhere and began listening to rock music. This change in musical taste would later be the road map to his music career. At the age of 14, Adam’s older brother Ben came home from college with a gift, a Ventura classical guitar. He then made a deal with Adam, that if he could learn to play and sing “Crash” by Dave Matthews in a day he could keep the guitar. This challenge was presented because Adam had been given a guitar by his father that he never learned to play. As fate would have it, Adam stayed up into the late hours of the night practicing the song until he broke two strings and became frustrated with not being able to sing and play at the same time. The next morning he was awakened by the sound of his brother’s voice in his ear to come and play the song. With the old mangled guitar in hand, he worked his way through the song and passed with flying colors. After making a promise to his brother that he would never quit the guitar, Adam began leading worship at various youth groups and playing for his friends on the weekends. At the age of 15, Adam began writing songs and reluctantly playing them for his friends but never for his family, and continued to play through high school. Although he never really had plans to be a performing musician he couldn’t let it go. He attended Sam Houston state university where he had his debut at an open mic in a local coffee shop. He played his 4 song set of covers and received overwhelming applause. From that moment on he knew that live performance was his lot in life. Performing in and around Huntsville, Texas, Adam began developing a following of fans. They loved his theatrical stage presence and unique interpretations of his favorite rock and soul songs. He was pleased with his success in Huntsville but it wasn’t enough. After two years of moonlighting in bars and waking up only to struggle through college courses, Adam dropped out of college and pursued his dream of becoming a singer/songwriter. After a four year stint in Huntsville as a local musician, Adam set his sights on Austin, Texas. He packed his bags and headed home to Houston to work as an electrician’s assistant in order to save up the money. After his arrival in Austin, Adam began to play vigorously on the street corners downtown and at open mics pedaling for loose change and hoping for an opportunity to play at the bars. Now after a year and a half of busking and playing in bars, Adam has developed a reputation as one of Austin’s up and coming musicians.
