Biography

I have been writing, recording and producing music in a range of genres since the age of 14. Now 20, I write and record for my solo pop punk project 'Hour Of Now' (www.myspace.com/hourofnow) and solo electro/house project 'Addie Jay' (www.myspace.com/addiejay).

I have recently been commissioned by the BBC to produce a soundtrack for one of their new shows.

I am also song-writer, vocalist, producer and keyboardist in my rock band '...And The Magical 8-Ball Band' - we have played at a range of venues and events including a headline set at the Bournemouth BIC, Southampton University, Bournemouth Square and the Great Dorset Steam Fair supporting the Bootleg Beatles.

One of my 'Addie Jay' tracks was featured as 'Demo Of The Month' in FutureMusic magazine, January 2008, 'Hot Pick' in FutureMusic January 2009, and reviewed in Computer Music Magazine, May 2008.

As lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, producer and song-writer in the now defunct indie-rock band 'Undercurrent', we played at many venues and events including Bournemouth Square, Poole Lighthouse, Dorset Sound Festival, and Leicester Square, as well as appearing on BBC Radio Solent, BBC Online Showcase and XFM London.

"...And The Magical 8-Ball Band":

Four music-makers thrown together from the deep reaches of Poole, bonded by their love for rock music and magic...and apparently 8-balls. Upon discovering that they all played different instruments (this was favourable) and that they could actually play these instruments together as one kind of melody-producing harmonic unit,
forming a band seemed like a pretty nifty idea.
All they needed now was a really cool name. Alas, no plan is perfect...

‘…And The Magical 8-Ball Band’ pride themselves on their glitzy, ballsy, high-energy, and above-all fun live performances – combining pop punk, riff rock and general on-stage musical madness, these guys offer A SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED!!

Lyrics

'Hour Of Now' - You're Not Around

Written By: Adam Scholey

You're so cool,
Such a cool thing to do,
To leave me when I needed you,
Wish I was cool just like you,
But I'm too nice,
To leave someone on their own,
When they've got nowhere to go,
So glad that I'm not cool like you,

But don't say sorry 'cos it's too late,
To fix the past and I just can't wait to,
Throw out your CD's 'cos they're so lame,
Although I'll rip them first,

Just don't feel sorry for me,
'Cos I'm having fun now that you're gone,
I'm living here doing what I want,
Just see what you did to me,
'Cos now I never put the toilet seat down,
Things are great now that you're not around,

It sucked,
You told me just what to do,
Told everyone I needed you,
You seemed to never tell the truth,
But it's OK,
'Cos look how things turned out,
Forgot what life was really about,
And now I'm writing songs for you,

But don't say sorry 'cos it's too late,
To fix the past and I just can't wait to,
Burn your clothes 'cos they're all out of style,
Although I'll wear them first,

Just don't feel sorry for me,
'Cos I'm having fun now that you're gone,
I'm living here doing what I want,
Just see what you did to me,
'Cos now I never put the toilet seat down,
Things are great now that you're not around,

(Well tell yourself) That I will take you back,
(And pretend) You always hated rap,
(But it's true) Pop punk was always crap 'cos it was far too happy,
(You were far too happy),
(And now) You're sat alone, you're crying,
(You're crying) To Bullet For My Valentine,
(You're crying) While I've got Fall Out Boy up to number eleven,
(Number eleven) Number eleven,
(Number eleven) It's louder than seven,
(Louder than seven, number eleven)

Just don't feel sorry for me,
'Cos I'm having fun now that you're gone,
I'm living here doing what I want,
Just see what you did to me,
'Cos now I never put the toilet seat down,
Things are great now that you're not around,

Your hold on me is gone,
Wrapped round your finger so long,
Don't think I'll take you back,
Now that my life's on track.

'Undercurrent' - An Hour Away

Written By: Adam Scholey

Somebody called me up and made me smile,
You see I hadn't heard that voice in quite a while,
It said "Hey! How's it going for you?
'Cos I saw your name on MySpace and I didn't know what to do",
So I said "Yeah I'm doing fine!
But can you please tell me your name 'cos I know you know mine?"
She said "You might not remember me,
But my name is Nikki Taylor, I had Miss Johnson in Year 3"
Then we grew up through school together,
Endured the stormy weather,
But we made it through,
And now I'm thinking,

The good times and bad times that we had,
I look back and I don't feel so sad,
'Cos I remember feeling glad that you're just an hour away,
'Cos it's been a while since you've been home,
You sit and stare at the wall feeling alone,
Just pick up the God-damn phone and I'll be there right away,
'Cos you're just an hour away,

Then she gave me her number and told me to ring her back,
'Cos I got free monthly phone calls and she wanted to chat,
Ten minutes later we had started to reminisce,
About how the gyms were always cold and how we used to take the piss out of the,
Substitute teachers that were weird, how the Headteacher never shaved her beard,
And how the headlice lady never cleared a single kid,
We remembered it so well even though it was so many years ago,
I suppose it just goes to show,

The good times and bad times that we had,
I look back and I don't feel so sad,
And I remember feeling glad that you're just an hour away,
'Cos it's been a while since you've been home,
You sit and stare at the wall feeling alone,
Just pick up the God-damn phone and I'll be there right away,
'Cos you're just an hour away,

The good times and bad times that we had,
I look back and I don't feel so sad,
'Cos I remember feeling glad that you're just an hour away,
'Cos it's been a while since you've been home,
You sit and stare at the wall feeling alone,
Just pick up the God-damn phone and I'll be there right away,

I'm not sad,
I feel glad,
That I'm just an hour away.

AdamS - Cardiac-Friendly Glue

Flowers in hand and I'm on my way,
With a letter I hand-wrote only yesterday,
You'd have been so pleased, I cleaned my car,
The birds sing out into the clear blue sky,
While your headstone reads the words "Here doth lie
The hopes I had for the only one I've ever loved",

So I'm searching B&Q for tubes of cardiac-friendly glue,
Since the coroner's verdict gave your cause of death as
"having unrealistic views",
And I contemplate the state in which your departure left my life,
When my back became a place for keeping knives,

'Cos nothing passes much slower than,
The time spent making premature funeral plans,
And you'd have been so pleased with the parma ham at the buffet,
You were cut down in your prime, it's so mean,
Didn't even make it to eighteen,
Just days away from the best days of your life,

'Cos I'm searching B&Q for tubes of cardiac-friendly glue,
Since the coroner's verdict gave your cause of death as
"being so able to choose",
And I contemplate the state in which your departure left my life,
When my back became a place for keeping knives,

When you were finally taken away,
The cancer got you in the end,
You wouldn't let me cut it out,
'Cos you told me it was "just your friend",
It ate your brain from the inside,
So that real life you couldn't see,
And if I ever find this glue,
I hope it's "Buy One Get One Free"

'Cos I'm searching B&Q for tubes of cardiac-friendly glue,
But they don't have any left so 'No More Nails' will have to do,

'Cos I'm searching B&Q for tubes of cardiac-friendly glue,
Since the coroner's verdict gave your cause of death as
"being unable to refuse",
And I contemplate the state in which your departure left my life,
When my back became a place for keeping knives,
When my back became a new place for aiming knives,
But the tube says "solvent-free" so I'll be alright.

'...And The Magical 8-Ball Band' - iPod

Written By: Adam James Scholey

------------------------------------
Words and Music: A.Scholey
------------------------------------

There was once a tribe of people,
With unfamiliar ways,
Ripping songs and album artwork,
Occupied their days,
Then there came a weary traveller,
Who took them by surprise,
He told them something that would change their lives,
And open up their eyes,

He said,
Take your iPod and throw it away,
Put this cable up your nose,
You can upload music directly to your brain,
And take it wherever you go,

Well as you can well imagine,
The tribe just looked around,
Confused how something oh so simple,
Could bring them so much sound,
Then one native put the cable,
Up his nasal cavity,
Clicked "transfer" and his brain was flooded,
With songs from Bon Jovi,

And he said,
Take your iPod and throw it away,
Put this cable up your nose,
You can upload music directly to your brain,
And take it wherever you go,

"It's my life, it's now or never",
"I ain't gonna live forever" now,
"My heart is an open highway",
"Frankie said - I did it my way" now,

Take your iPod and throw it away,
Put this cable up your nose,

You can upload music directly to your brain,
And take it wherever you go,
And he said,
Take your iPod and throw it away,
Put this cable up your nose,
You can upload music directly to your brain,
And take it wherever you go.
