"Five Miles To Rolling Fork Review"

Review By Jerry Thompson

Homegrown and heavy, very heavy stuff! "5 Miles To Rolling Fork" is produced right here in Independence by one hell of a talented individual, Adam Wyatt. This album pushes the envelope with blues and simple screaming guitar and drums.

At first song, "5 Miles To Rolling Fork" you have to look at your stereo to see if you stuck in Ozzy, Metallica, or hearing a synthetic waa-waa disc, that only the true professional can deliver with such style and class. It's almost strange how the names like Deep Purple, Alice Cooper and some of my favorite trippy songs of the past keep floating across my mind as I listen....and listen....and listen!

Adam really lays you out! Kicked me back and made me think of the days of dancin' hookahs and dreams! Crank up the volume, and you can feel the very heavy thump and see the heads turn....yeah, you 20-somethings ain't got shit!

The key word for this album is "heavy"- man, oh, man....get out the roundtabe, put away the dancing shoes, kick back and let some heavy-duty music paste you against the backstop of any sofa, chair, or floor you find yourself on.

Termed Hill Country Blues, unlike Delta or Chicago styles that went mainstreem, it didn't come to real light to later in life for most musicians. Adam mentions on his website that it's probably due to the fact that there wasn't any real recordings till much later in years.

Track 3 "Too Cold In Chicago" brings you blues purest to attention. The crying and great blues fills of harmony and slow creeping lyrics are just too cool. It's just the sort of mix a true professional lays on an album that brings you back to a great "blues reality".

Even though the next couple of tracks keep that heavy feel, it's blues, and what you notice is poingnat lyrics and great musical ensemble. Track 4 "Two Worlds" brings you some more of the rock feel, but then Track 5 "Same Old Blues" delivers the lyrics and story that us bluesers love.

Just when you thought you've got him figured out, he throws Track 6 "Murder In The Bayou" to keep your loyalty and love.

He opens the throttle and harmony with Track 7 "Bonnie and Clyde"! It will get your butt off the chair and wiggling or swinging with your partner all over the place. Nice uppity beat and just another envelope pusher but this time on the blues side.

Adam closes out the CD with a sound that most bluesers will find familiar and comforatable. To me, it almost seems as him paying his dues to the sound of the past. Great crispness, nice slides and a loving dancing beat.

Go see Adam Wyatt any time you can! Vist his website to familiarize yourself with his skill and talent.

"Adam Wyatt w/ Chris Duarte"

Knucklehead's is a true roadhouse, nestled between a rather rough-looking neighborhood and a set of railroad tracks that look as if they have been there since the first part of the 20th century.

Local guitar hero Adam Wyatt opened the show. I’m normally not a big fan of opening bands, but Wyatt handled the unenviable task of opening for such a guitar monster as Duarte quite well, even Chris was smiling at his version of Tommy Bolin’s Post Toastee.

It was a perfect call to arms for Chris, and the sold-out crowd was super-pumped for the gang from Atlanta to hit the stage - Lisa Lackman / chrisduartegroupfans.org

“How can someone 27 years old play so good? Adam Wyatt is a true professional, from the time he walks in the door until he puts down the guitar at the end of the night. Hold on when this guy comes to town!” --Richard Shulte, Owner Blayneys of Westport

“One hell of a talented individual”

What do you get when you mix Kansas City’s hottest blues guitarist, a gorgeous young female drummer and one of the best bassists in the Midwest?
The Adam Wyatt Electric Band.

At the age of 27, Adam’s virtuosic yet soulful guitar playing has earned him a loyal fan base of blues lovers and guitar freaks through out the Midwest. Even Adam’s guitar, “The Farmcaster“, built from pieces of his great great grandfathers pre civil war home has earned almost mythical status among Strato-holics.

Word of a young man who could make a guitar scream like Hendrix, Travis pick like Merle, and cry like Albert King didn’t take long to spread. What had started in small clubs was soon moved into Kansas City’s top music venues. The Adam Wyatt Electric Band was soon asked to open shows for such notables as Chris Duarte, Corey Stevens, Rocky Athas, and Eric Sardinas. The band has also appeared live on The Fox News Morning Show, as well as multiple appearances on The Kansas City Spotlight Sessions. Adam and the band was also hand selected by LA piano legend David Krull for a string of dates. “I’ve worked with Jeff Healey, Hubert Sumlin and Bonnie Raitt, so I know a little about guitarists, let me tell you this Wyatt kid is one of the best there is. What a pleasure to have on stage.) ~ David Krull

“5 Miles To Rolling Fork” Adam’s first album was released in early 2006 to great reviews and sales. A unique melding of songs about Delta life, and scorching guitar work combine into a enchanting world of murder, pain, hoodoo’s and redemption. Adam not only wrote 8 of the 9 songs on “Five Miles To Rolling Fork” (only the Tommy Bolin classic “Post Toastee” was covered) Adam played all the guitar, bass, dobro, lap steel and vocals along with producing and engineering the album.

In 2006, The Adam Wyatt Electric Band has already performed over 150 shows throughout the Mid West, including a main stage performance at the Kansas City Blues and Jazz Fest and the Stillwater Oklahoma Blues Fest.
