A joint Kiwi/UK venture ‘A Doubtful Sound’ are a straight up guitar rock outfit who wear their influences on their sleeves. The band came into being when Christchurch natives Ollie and Hamish headed to the UK earlier this year and started making music with Bristolians James and Jake. The foursome have recorded their new song ‘Never seen the light’ and it’s a straight up Foo Fighters-esque effort with plenty of Queens of the Stone Age influence on display as well.
Full of scuzzy guitars and thumping percussion the song rattles along at a frenetic pace and ticks all the boxes on the alternative rock form guide. It’s a brief enough number at just over the three minute mark but the song doesn’t hit any bum notes. Frontman Hamish Woodside delivers his vocal with aplomb and the key to the track is the bombastic percussion section from stickman Ollie Law who gives the song its heart.
The band has previously released their demos on soundcloud and their sound is gradually evolving. They are currently working on their debut EP and ‘Never Seen the Light’ offers an interesting taster of a band who show plenty of promise. - Music Review Unsigned

Do you like earthquakes? Neither did Ollie and Hamish who hail from New Zealand’s shakiest city, Christchurch. After the opportunity to link up with likeminded Bristol based musicians James and Jake arose, the boys jumped on the first flight to the UK they could early in 2012. With a shared love of hard hitting Rock’n’Roll, they quickly buried themselves into rehearsals, finally emerging from the studio with tracks for their debut self-titled EP.
While Hamish and Ollie have been bashing out big rock tunes in New Zealand together for years, James and Jake have been making their own tracks in the Bristol music scene. James has enjoyed success with former Bristol bands I Am The Door and Full Scream Ahead. Jake on the other hand is an accomplished composer and graduate of Bristol Universities Music degree. Initially releasing demo tracks on Soundcloud, they’ve quickly amassed a solid following pushing against the Indie sound, with many drawing favourable comparisons to the Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and grunge heroes Nirvana. Providing a high energy live show, these boys are sure to shake up your night out!
