"Adventure Galley // First Listen"

Meet Adventure Galley, coming to you from Portland, Oregon, an American city infamous when it comes to music. The six-piece band recently recorded their debut album with Dave Trumfio, whose impressive producing portfolio includes Wilco and The Jesus and Mary Chain, amongst others. The album is entitled “Anywhere That’s Wild”, and is set to be released sometime over the next few months.

Adventure Galley are one of those brilliant bands that successfully manage to meld more than a few genres into one song, splicing together elements from all the bands we know and love, whilst creating something totally new at the same time. The band have very kindly made some tracks from their forthcoming debut available to listen to on their Soundcloud page (http://soundcloud.com/adventure-galley/) , and the songs sound very promising indeed. ‘Addict’ is a synth-heavy and dancefloor-ready stormer of a tune, a striking statement of intent. If you were going to hear any Adventure Galley song playing on the radio, it’d be this one.

‘Weekend Lovers’ takes a slightly different tone to Addict, but has the same infectious quality that looks set to become Adventure Galley’s hallmark. The track starts off slowly and softly and builds up into something both brilliantly noisy and melodic, and draws instant Arcade Fire comparisons, no bad thing at all. Both tracks sound quite different to each other, but the main quality that they both share is that they’re perfect examples of the band aiming high for a big and epic sound and succeeding.

If you like the sound of Adventure Galley and want to hear more from them their EP, ‘The Right Place To Be’, is also available from the band via their Facebook page. If the debut album lives up to the excitement of the tracks released so far, it looks set to propel Adventure Galley out of Oregon and into the hearts of many.

"Stream: Adventure Galley"

IFC cult favorite, Portlandia, has drawn much of its humor from poking fun at the elitist and often absurd nature of west coast hipster lifestyles that it's easy to forget they've featured plenty of great tracks on the series from little known indie bands. Adventure Galley, one of the bands whose music has been featured on Portlandia, has released three singles from their upcoming debut album Anywhere That's Wild. "Weekend Lovers" showcases a sound that proves rock and roll you can dance too didn't die when James Murphy disbanded LCD Soundsystem. With more overt punk influences than LCD Soundsystem, Adventure Galley has the potential to explore new spaces in dance rock, and we're looking forward to seeing where they take their sound.

UPDATE 1:23PM: Sorry, they have yet to be featured on IFC's Portlandia. Our mistake.

"Adventure Galley :: Weekend Lovers"

Our friends over at Low Life Inc are at it again, sending us another gem. This time it's six piece Portland, OR band Adventure Galley. Their track "Weekend Lovers" is mighty impressive. Amazing dark, pop dance track. I get a little Arcade Fire, Joy Division feel to it, but with a synth rock dance vibe that's hard to resist. Love the atmospheric intro. Check it out below and if you like what you hear it's free for the taking. Their debut album 'Anywhere it's Wild' is scheduled for release soon and is produced by Dave Trumfio of Jesus Mary Chain / Built to Spill / Wilco fame. - Off the Radar

"Band to Watch: Adventure Galley"

Adventure Galley is a six piece synth-pop band out of Portland, Oregon. Their sound is very much in the mold of Future Islands and The Killers with a dash of Cold Cave and P.C. (Pre-Congratulations) MGMT in which heavy synths build up danceable pop music. What sticks out most about the band is an almost monotone vocal in each of their songs that somehow strangely still resonates as emotional. Adventure Galley’s first hit track was the infectous pop jam “Addict” which was originally released in 2010 on the band’s first EP entitled The Right Place To Be. A remastered version of the track will be included on an upcoming album scheduled to drop this year along with two new tracks, “Marooned” and “Weekend Lovers”, which were released for preview earlier this month.

Of the two, “Marooned” sticks out the most and speaks to the potential of the band. While “Weekend Lovers” falls more in line with “Addict” in an upbeat, windows down pop music vane, “Marooned” brings a darker, more intriguing vibe to it. Like 95% of pop music, it deals with a relationship that’s gone wrong and reminds me of a recent someone who fleetingly passed through my own life. There is no feeling of wanting to reconcile, only a strong sense of betrayal and anger over something that’s beyond repair for unexplainable reasons. As human beings, we tend to understand absolutes but live our own lives in the ambiguity of our emotions, clinging to past ideas and experiences of what we think we have and deserve. Letting go is just too hard. But when the end arrives and neither believes the face in the mirror to be at fault, someone ultimately has to supply closure, with the most pained usually being the person to do so.

Marooned on an island

In love with a bullet and a gun

She claims that the temperature has nothing to do with it

It’s not her fault

The bullet is mine

Please allow me

Careful what you wish for

Both tracks show a lot of promise and certainly make Adventure Galley a band to keep your eye on in 2012. While no album release date has been scheduled, as of yet, you’ll have to live with the preview of these two new songs, which we have below. Enjoy discovering and please, don’t forget to share. - Thoughts on Tracks

"Adventure Galley"

Earmilk just dropped three tracks by Adventure Galley off their upcoming album. Their song “Addict,” from their EP The Right Place To Be instantly caught my attention, with a sound reminscent of The Killers and Franz Ferdinand.

The Portland-based sextet were signed to Myspace Records back in 2010, but that quickly fizzled into a bit of a failure (no fault of their own). Fortunately they’re back on their feet and rearing to go. - Indie Shuffle

"Adventure Galley - "Weekend Lovers" [Video Premiere]"

Starting 2012 off on the right note, EARMILK had the opportunity to premiere 3 tracks off of Adventure Galley's upcoming LP. One of those tracks, "Weekend Lovers," just received a video accompaniment and EARMILK is excited to have the premiere. Despite being the band's first video, the Benjamin Ross Lyerly-directed reel adds a hypnotic visual experience which acts to reinforce the already vibrant nature of "Weekend Lovers." Drawing inspiration from the song's lyric "neon jungles," the video captures what looks to be the most fantastic neon-centric party I've ever seen. Despite my first guess that the video was shot in Pandora, the reality that it was filmed in a century-old church in Portland, OR known locally as "Funky Church," is surprisingly only slightly less exciting. Flashing between a neon-filled sub-reality and its unlensed counter-reality, the former adds an additional layer of liberation to an already exhilarating party. This is particularly noticeable as quarrelsome guests clash one moment, only to find themselves intimately interlocked as "weekend lovers" the next. Enjoy the video and know it's okay to feel envious of those at the party. I do. - EARMILK.com

"Introducing: Adventure Galley [Earmilk Premiere]"

It's officially the first day of 2012 and we are filled with exuberance. This excitement is mostly from what we have to share today. To begin your January 1st, we are premiering three exclusive tracks from the men at Adventure Galley. Here is a brief history of the synth-y rock band. Back in 2010, Adventure Galley won Myspace's Rock the Space contest which signed them with Myspace Records. Now that Myspace Records are no more, we are virtually releasing three songs from them. Adventure Galley is six guys from Portland, Oregon. All members are fairly young with the physical and musical appeals of alternative rock and roll. Their music is compared to an amplified Arcade Fire or The Killers having a garage jam session with MGMT. The synthesizer is a foundation to their indie anthems. Last spring, Adventure Galley recorded their debut album in LA's Kingsize Soundlabs, where Islands and Passion Pit have also been clients of. "Marooned", "Weekend Lovers" and a new recording of "Addict" are exclusive songs from their upcoming album. "Addict" was originally featured on Adventure Galley's The Right Place To Be EP from 2010. The remastered "Addict" has a legendary charm along with the other two tracks. As you can imagine, electronically sonic rock jams are empowering and that is Adventure Galley. Enjoy "Marooned", "Weekend Lovers", and "Addict" because Earmilk is your only place to hear it before January 14th. You can view this exclusive premiere as a little gift so please leave your feedback in the comments below and get connected with Adventure Galley. - EARMILK.com

Bio

Originally formed by childhood friends, David Mills and Aaron Johnson, Portland-based Adventure Galley has been on the rise since 2009, playing to crowds of dancing people of all ages across the West Coast. Utilizing an arsenal of synthesizers and drum samples, a love of interesting guitar tones, and the high energy of its live performance, Adventure Galley creates highly original music with unique, powerful vocals and unforgettable melodies.
On January 1st 2012, Adventure Galley premiered the first three tracks from its upcoming full-length debut album exclusively available for online streaming on the high-traffic music blog, EARMILK. The album, a follow-up to 2010’s The Right Place To Be EP, was produced and mixed by acclaimed producer Dave Trumfio whose previous work has included albums by Built to Spill, Ok Go, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Wilco & Billy Brag. A new recording of the song "Addict," which was originally featured on the band's 2010 EP and the winner out of 17,000 entrants in a music competition hosted by myspace.com is included among the newly released tracks.
Primarily recorded last spring in Los Angeles, at Kingsize Soundlabs (used by artists such as Islands, Passion Pit, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs), the album features a combination of heavy electronic production and traditional rock recording techniques, which results in a sound that is equal parts dance club beat-centric and punk show energetic. Through the process if carefully crafting a debut album, Adventure Galley has created a set of recordings that are sonically dynamic and unique in soundscape, yet remain vocally driven and pop-sensible.
Within three days of their New Years Day release, the tracks Addict and Weekend Lovers held the 6th and 9th spots on The Hype Machine’s (www.hypem.com) most popular songs on blogs list, and the word is spreading. With the EARMILK write up, a stark rise in blog attention, and a number of shows in the works around the North West and beyond in 2012, Adventure Galley continues to gain hype in their home state and around the web.
