Bio
Formed summer 2010, Aella is Wichita, Kansas’ newest post-hardcore band. Aella is heavily influenced by artists such as Closure in Moscow, Coheed and Cambria, Moving Mountains, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and Mogwai. The band consists of four music majors from Wichita State University: lead vocalist and guitarist Dallas Owen (Augustene, R.O.E.), backup vocalist and bassist Andy Bowers (West of Eden, Playing for Keeps), lead guitarist Mike Engdahl, and drummer Eric Selzer. Although Aella primarily aims to engulf its audience in a wave of tight, often complex rock riffs, it also frequently breaks into melodic post-rock interludes that offer the audience musical variety and a memorable experience. The instrumentation is filled with unique harmonies and chords that reflect the musicians’ several years of jazz training, while Owen’s singing and screaming spans over a three octave range to complete the band’s distinctive feel. Throughout the summer and fall, Aella has been writing music almost nonstop and recently finished self-recording demo tracks. The band is eager to jump into the music scene and begin playing shows as they continue writing tracks for their upcoming EP entitled “32:36.”
