"To Persevere Review"

"Concoctions of pop, punk, hard rock, and indie are stirred up with the expert touch of a trained bartender on “To Persevere” the sophomore release by Springfield, Massachusetts band Aeroplane, 1929. Pop-punk rock with experimental studio touches by every stretch of the imagination, the band wings jabs at topical subjects like religion, friendship, and urban youth. Remember how The Get Up Kids used to sound back in the day? Well that’s the territory that’s explored here. Nice hooks and loud clangy drums make this an instant classic." - Smother.net

Bio

Alex Mazzaferro and his band of multi-instrumentalist misfits, Wil Mulhern, Peter Federman, and brothers Jake and Noah Goldman, formed in 2004 under the name The Pretentious. Capitalizing on the popularity of several Internet demos, they began to play out, with a live show employing a profusion of keyboards, percussion, laptop, and crowd participation. Now known to incorporate entire crowds in call-and-response games between songs, Aeroplane, 1929 aim for as diverse and fun a performance as possible.

The band spent seven months recording To Persevere, which captures as expansive a feel as any record the area has ever seen. Converting the third floor of the Goldman’s house into an intricate home studio now known in Connecticut as “The Principal’s Office,” the band utilized any instrument they felt would help to communicate the record’s message--tambourines, shakers, glockenspiel, trash can, accordion, violin, marimba, sleigh bells, and tape recorders. Freeing themselves from restrictions, Aeroplane, 1929 could finally make the record they’d always longed to.

With To Persevere finished and out now on Topshelf Records, Aeroplane, 1929 has now set their sights to the road. Look for them in your area on the east coast this summer.
