Bio
Aestrid is based in Utrecht in The Netherlands.
Formed in 2004, Aestrid started as Bo Menning's solo recording project.
Their second full-length album, "BOX" has been released on the UK-based Function Records label on January 25th 2013.

After releasing a first succesful demo - "IN D'ESPRIT PORNOGRAPHIQUE" - full of haunting post-punk melodies, Menning started recording a full-length album - "THE ECHO RESISTANCE" - which kept him locked away in his DIY studio for 4 years. "Things got a bit out of control...". Menning started putting a band together and the self-released album got picked up with good reviews and intense and haunting live shows as a result of all the hard work that was put in.
The songs on Aestrid's new album - BOX - were influenced by German Krautrock bands, New Wave bands like The Sound and New Order and even Post-Punk bands like Fugazi.
Always longing for experiment and excitement in their search for a unique sound.
Aestrid works like that as well. In the summer of 2012 they found the perfect spot to record 'BOX'. An old empty factory in their hometown had various spaces and rooms, all sounding inspiring. Aestrid has always been a bit about DIY, creating a world of your own in order to escape another and that's one of the reasons why they like to record and produce everything by themselves.
Dreamy guitars, swerving synthesizers, a thundering bass and cleverish drums with a hopeless sense for nostalgia drenched in bittersweet melodies.
- "BOX" - was released on Function Records on 25th January 2013.
The name - Aestrid - was chosen as the first songs began to take shape 8 years ago in Bo's bedroom. Astrid was his father's fiance and his mother's best friend. She tragically died of carbon monoxide poisoning and drowned while taking a bath due to a faulty boiler. The tragedy brought his parents together seeking for comfort. Devastation became new love.
