Afraid Of Flying

Afraid Of Flying

BandRockPop

Afraid of Flying are an energetic young 4-some, with distinctive musical chemistry. Influenced by 1920’s jazz-chic and good old timeless rock n roll, our songs transmogrify sultry vocals, blues guitar, funk bass and rocking beats into joyous reggae grooves and moments of pure ethereal space-pop.

Biography

Afraid of Flying came together through work-mates Chris, recently bandless, and Ingrid (ie Ingrid - I want to play bass. Chris - OK, here's one. Learn it!), This was followed by a tortuous auditioning process that eventually turned up gold in the form of one Ace young drummer (yes , his name actually is Ace!) and the gorgeous, sultry-toned Lucy.

Our song-writing is very much a collaborative, evolving process, formed in the jam-room and by matching these to lyrics written on little scraps of paper in the bottom our gig-bags. Influences (in no particular order):
Bowie, Pink Floyd, Stone Temple Pilots, Cut Copy, Portishead, and a nice bottle of scotch.

What sets us apart, is our fresh, clean sound. Our motto: Less is More!

Lyrics

Sixes And Sevens

Written By: C. Ellis

Voices and words,
How could they drop such a bomb?
Such a contradiction!
One that we all know is wrong

I’m not who they think I am,
Just a name, and a smiling face.
I can change, anyway I want,
‘Cause with you, I know I’m safe

I’m sure the sun will rise tomorrow
I am sure the sun will rise tomorrow
Everything will be fine

I’m all sixes and sevens!
Not quite myself, but closer to God
I’m all sixes and sevens
Not quite here, but less than a step away
Pictures, possessions
You line them up and count away
I’d like to tell you, despite all of this,
I’m not afraid!

I’m sure the sun will rise tomorrow
I am sure the sun will rise tomorrow
Everything will be fine

I can be whoever
I think that I am
I just change my name to save my face,
But it’s not quite right…

It’s just a funny old game we play
It’s just a funny old game we play
It’s so funny, this game we play
It’s so funny

I am sure the sun will rise,
I’m so sure the sun will shine
I’m so sure that the sun will shine tomorrow
Everything will be fine
Be fine
Just fine

Wall To Wear

Written By: C.Ellis, I. Hovingh, L. Farley

Awake another day!
It’s time to play this game
It’s time to bang and blame
It always plays the same

Just give me time and
I’ll build you a wall to wear
(Repeat)

Let’s just stop for one second,
And talk about the world
You can tell me all the jokes and
I’ll pretend I haven’t heard

Just give me time and
I’ll build you a wall to wear
(Repeat)

It won’t be a sweater
Keep you from the cold
Like your favourite coat,
Feels just like home
(Repeat)

We can tread the boards and
Pretend we’ve never heard
Go on and take the stage,
You’ll win all the applause

Just give me time and
I’ll build you a wall to wear
(Repeat)

It won’t wrap you up tight,
Or ever crash around you
It won’t let you down,
Or block the sun about you
It’ll keep you warm, I betchya!
Protect you from the cold
Like your favourite coat,
That always feels like home
