The best kept secret in music

"Houston Neo Soul Sessions"

Houston Neo Soul Sessions presented by Black Luster Recordings featuring Philippe Edison, Drummatic, Jonquel, Bee Honey and The Afroknotts was a melodic evening that satisfied all of my musical cravings. The atmosphere was filled with warmth as these artists released their passion into their music with soul grasping power. Up first, Jonquel dazzled the stage with a distinguished presence only to be matched with stellar vocal capabilities and music production that reflected sheer genius. Jonquel relinquished his heart to the crowd. An act that did not return void as the response from the crowd exemplified the intensity. Jonquel’s stage presence was very personal as he drew the crowd in with meaningful lyrics that sent a message of fearlessness. Jonquel’s music serves as the perfect theme music to a life destined to conquer all. With an album release brewing I anticipate that Jonquel will bring true masculinity back to R&B and soul music. It is nothing greater than hearing a man sing his heart out and I am here for it all! Followed by Jonquel, we were in for a marvelous treat provided by The AfroKnotts with lead singer Bee Honey. Bee Honey is such a fitting name for the powerful woman behind one of the sweetest voices I have heard. A sultry voice complimented by vigorous band members: Big Brandon Willis on keys, Amaru on drums, and Mufasa on bass guitar. This band flowed together as milk and honey and the result was truly the works of the divine. The AfroKnotts constructed music that made you feel good from head to toe. A live band this fluid only comes from hard work, dedication, and preparation; the formula for optimal success. If you have never experienced a live band this is the one to see! The AfroKnotts are unstoppable and I can not wait to enjoy their next show. The AfroKnotts were the perfect precursor to the final performance. The grand duo, saxophonist Philippe Edison and percussionist Drummatic, collaborated on a set that infused jazz music and hip hop. The experience was one to be marveled. Along with playing the saxophone, Philippe also brought along his drum pad and added a myriad of beats to his set. I can only imagine the complexity of multitasking these two instruments as effortlessly and harmoniously as Philippe demonstrated. Drummatic contributed a punchy edge to the dynamic sounds of Philippe Edison. It was great to see these artists in sync. One can only expect music at this magnitude to develop into its own genre with ground breaking changes to the music industry. Nothing but greatness is in store for Philippe Edison and Drummatic.
