Against the Girl

BandRockAvant-garde

Progresive Rock/Pop with Soul. Piano-based trio led by an aggressive female vocalist, funky drummer, and out-of-this world bass player.

Biography

Against the Girl is a progressive rock/pop trio comprised of Lex Southern, Luis Gorfinkel and Fernando Perdomo. All three are native Floridians with hispanic roots in the islands.

Lex, Luis and Fernando of Against the Girl (ATG) all met in a Miami Beach High School in their teens in the late 90's. They passed eachother along the years playing in various ensembles and experimenting with different genres.

After graduating, they all went their seperate ways and had their musical experiences at the hands of private lessons, undergraduate studies, session work and gigging.

2001- Luis and Lex got together for writing sessions after meeting up in college.

2002- A group was assembled solely for the purpose of test-driving the material.

2003- Against the Girl went into the studio and recorded an LP entitled "AMP Begins".

2004- Against the Girl played locally and went back into the lab for more writing sessions and refinement of their dynamic style.

2005-Against the Girl welcomed Fernando in the lineup and had a really busy year as opening acts for groups as diverse as Barry Hay of Golden Earring, EMI Artist JD Natasha, and the B52's.

2006 Possibly world domination or at least an attempt!

Lyrics

Romeo

Written By: Lex Southern & Luis Gorfinkel

Oh, This man he's too much for me.
It's been so long,
since I've been swept off my feet.
I can't tell you what he does to me. But man oh, man this guy is way too much for me.

All the tension's burning,
Adding to the fire,
And you keep on lighting up that hidden wire.
Follow it down,
See where it leads you.

Compromising,
Little turn of these events,
It seems that all these actions, Have been predetermined.
Follow it down,
See where it leads you.

And so, I found my Romeo.
But rather than tapping,
He broke down my window.
No, where for art thou
Doth this Juliet roam.
He walked right in,
And made himself at home.

All the tension's burning,
Adding to the fire,
And you keep on lighting up that hidden wire.
Follow it down,
See where it leads you.

Compromising,
Little turn of these events,
It seems that all these actions, Have been predetermined.
Follow it down,
See where it leads you.

I found his essence.
Somewhere, between 5th St. & 24th,
And there's no return
To where I came from.
(Repeats3 times)

All the tension's burning,
Adding to the fire,
And you keep on lighting up that hidden wire.
Follow it down,
See where it leads you.

Compromising,
Little turn of these events,
It seems that all these actions, Have been predetermined.
Follow it down,
See where it leads you.

Lemonade

Written By: Lex Southern & Luis Gorfinkel

It's too hot tonight to get close.
I wanna breathe in everything I know.
Without trouble or desperation,
Be still and confident with all my decisions tonight.

Well, you keep giving me lemons,
To make my lemonade.
And I keep pondering,
All the things to you I'd like to say. When I reach your gates,
On my judgement day,
We're gonna' have to have a few words.

Now, I don't mean to be sacrosanct,
But it's not exactly what I planned.
It's out of my hands,
As I survey the crowd,
And try so hard just,
To figure you out on my own.

Well, you keep giving me lemons,
To make my lemonade.
And I keep pondering,
All the things to you I'd like to say. When I reach your gates,
On my judgement day,
We're gonna' have to have a few words.

Instrumental Bridge

Well, you keep giving me lemons,
To make my lemonade.
And I keep pondering,
All the things to you I'd like to say. When I reach your gates,
On my judgement day,
We're gonna' have to have a few words.
