"Ahead Band Featured Artist 5/16"

Ahead Band -The name originally was intended to be "Head Band" but after our first few practice sessions we realized the songs we were writing were not so much affixed to one genre. We saw our music was moving "Ahead” from the expectations we set for ourselves. The rest is history; we renamed the band to "Ahead Band".

Band Bio: Ahead Band formed during the many meetings that occurred while playing during jam sessions in town. All members quickly found that jamming with each other had certain chemistry. From there the band went on to write all original music that includes influences from funk, jazz, blues, rock, reggae, and jam. Unfortunately in November of 2007, we parted ways with our original drummer Grey over management issues.

Members (and their job in the band): Eric Lefford - Lead Vocals/Keyboards/Guitar
Jason King - Guitars
Michael Cano - Guitars
Evan Dudley - Bass/Backing Vocals
Bano - Drums

What do you sound like?: Hopefully our sound is original. Together our influences span a tremendous spectrum. We all have been influenced greatly by rock and funk. Michael takes his influences from the classics; Hendrix, Zeppelin, and other classic rock bands. Bano has played about everything but is heavily influenced by 70's funk and reggae. Eric, Jason, and myself all started playing 80's heavy metal such as Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and Pantera. Eric eventually found the blues and from there became impassioned with R, Rap, and Soul. Jason owes a lot to jazz (Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies) but also is influenced by the Beatles, MMW, and everyone who has played with Miles Davis. As for myself, I could site all of the aforementioned influences as well as Pink Floyd, CSN (Crosby, Stills, and Nash), Traffic, and the best of 'em all, Steely Dan. With all of these influences, the sound is original and biting.

Favorite venue to play in Tuscaloosa: The Mellow Mushroom

What should people expect when they come to see you live? : A high energy show with music that is delicious to all people's palettes.
Make a superband based on your

Advice for the Tuscaloosa music scene: Play, play, and play some more. You can record later, playing live is a must.

Albums: We will be recording our 1st full-length album at Workplay in Birmingham at the end of the month. It will be released sometime in May.
