Fiery rockers Aidan a band on the rise

According to Celtic interpretations, "Aidan" refers to fire and passion. In Mississauga, Aidan is also the name of a rising local rock band.
"Our name applies to the way we play and the songs we write," said the band's guitarist and lead vocalist Alexander Quail.
This band is definitely on fire. With a new music video, concert, and full-length album in the works, Aidan's musical resume is quickly expanding.
Influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Matthew Good, and the Lemonheads, Aidan's sound varies between Canadian and UK tastes. Lead guitarist Paul Temple defines the band's sound as alternative independent Brit pop.
"We're not generic, like others," he said.
Back in 2004, Aidan released Songs For The Socially Inept, a seven-song EP that showcases the band's lively instrumental talents. Currently, Aidan is in the process of recording At Least I'm Happy On The Outside, which is the band's first full-length album that will be released in mid-November.
To push their musical passion closer to the edge, Aidan is releasing a music video for their original tune, The Club Song. After being declined for a VideoFACT grant, Aidan decided to create their own video, funding the project themselves. The band also received help from music video directors Kirsta Teague and Ian Anderson.
"We only had two days of filming and we couldn't mess it up," said Quail.
The result is an ingenious, non-mainstream piece that highlights the band through the eyes of security cameras. Aidan is hoping their music video will attract more audiences to their music.
"There are so many bands pushing themselves to the radio. We wanted to be seen on TV and on the Internet," Temple said.
Independent music fans can view the video at Aidan's video release party, Dec. 17 at the Smiling Buddha Bar at 961 College St. W. in Toronto. This is a 19-and-over event and advance tickets cost $5.
To catch a glimpse of Aidan members Quail, Temple, drummer Mireya Gonsalez and bassist Greg Leclair, the rock quartet will play a live show Friday at The Big Bop. Thanks to their energetic and enthusiastic performances, Aidan always stirs up interest among music crowds.
"We always end up selling CDs at shows," said Quail.
The Big Bop is located at 651 Queen St. W. in Toronto. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 in advance and all ages are welcome. Performing with Aidan will be the Pickering band Fallen Prospect.

Since their inception in the fall the 2003, Aidan has exploded on to the Indie music scene in Ontario. Over the past year, Aidan has been a regular sight on many of stages in the Toronto area, much to the delight of their ever-growing fan base. Private shows as well as competing in large competitions like the world wide Emergenza music festival have allowed widespread exposure capturing eager new listeners with each performance.
While the band works hard constantly writing new material and continuing to evolve as a band for their live shows, they have been just as busy off the stage. The fall of 2004 saw the release of the bands debut album Songs for the Socially Inept. But even that wasnt enough to quiet the screaming fans. They wanted more, and Aidan was quick to deliver. In the winter of 2005 the band filmed their first video, scheduled for release in the summer of 2005.
Sandys provocative lyrical content and catchy chord progressions are brought to life by Pauls melodic leads. Mireya provides stunning backing vocals as well as a rock solid backbone on the drums while Sole's bass helps to add depth to the songs.
