While the pop spotlight is occupied by two hot new singles that dropped this week, it's also a great moment to check out some other exciting new pop releases that are bubbling up. For example, Natalia Kills ("Saturday Night") and VV Brown ("The Apple") serve up an exciting twist with their new music that I find very compelling. Another new track that I'm digging right now is Aiden Grimshaw's excellent new "The Way We Are" that you can grab below as a free download.

To the uninitiated, Aiden Grimshaw is a U.K. singer who rose to fame after a stint on X Factor. One of his earliest fans was music mogul Simon Cowell who was mightily impressed by Grimshaw's first appearance on the show and raved, "Now that's a pop star" during the first judging round.

It was a big moment for the young crooner that had been long in the making. After attending the Michael Hall Theatre School and stealing the show in his junior high production of Grease, Grimshaw was certain that a career in music was something he wanted to pursue. He worked at a local Pizza Hut in Blackpool and was offered a job as an entertainer on a cruise ship, but after high school Grimshaw decided to audition for The X-Factor instead and try out his luck.

Following last year's release of his debut LP, titled Misty Eye, he returns this summer with a brand-new single that once again shows off his penchant for crunchy pop. Grimshaw has never been a cookie-cutter singer who serves up the type of sweet 'n safe sound you may have come to expect from a reality TV show contestant. Grimshaw took a left turn and digged deep to create something that is artistically compelling and sonically pleasing.

The dark and moody undertones of "The Way We Are" are a good example of that. Grimshaw wrote the track with French producer Dimitri Tikovoi who is best known for his work with Charlie XCX, Mikky Ekko, Goldfrapp, The Horrors, Bebe Black and Paloma Faith. "Working with Dimitri was a brilliant opportunity which fortunately for me led to writing some awesome music which I'm delighted that people can now hear," Grimshaw explains in press release. Grab an MP3 of Aiden Grimshaw "The Way We Are" below.

The seventh series of the U.K.'s "X Factor" was probably one of the most fruitful in terms of successful alumni to move on and become stars all in their own right. Besides a slate consisting of Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd, and One Direction (ever heard of them?), season 7 of the hugely popular U.K. reality singing competition has also spawned the hit-making career of singer-songwriter Aiden Grimshaw, who, with an amazingly sultry soulful voice and talent, is someone more people should know about.

After auditioning with an amazing cover of Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” back in 2010, Grimshaw made it all the way to Week 6 on "The X-Factor" and soon after was signed to RCA Records. Fast forward a year or two to April of 2012, and Grimshaw released his first solo single, “Is This Love”, off his debut studio album Misty Eye.

Another notable single from the Misty Eye record includes the very popular and nostalgic “Curtain Call”:

His deep, old-school voice and charm are something not easy to come by in this day and age of autotune and heavy electronic music, and to be honest, it is really quite refreshing.

His newest effort is an EP that will be released sometime in September, with the lead single “The Way We Are”, a modern, almost dance-like take on Aiden’s signature dreamy and smooth vocal ability.

Although he is popular primarily in the U.K. as of now, we American listeners definitely wouldn’t mind having some more Aiden Grimshaw in our lives. - Young Hollywood

This is… surprising! Surprisingly good!!!!!!
Every once in a while a contestant emerges from a singing competition show and manages to make some truly spectacular music!
Like Diana Vickers before him, The X Factor UK alum Aiden Grimshaw has done just that!
He not only sings a great song but he wrote it too and it's a slice of moody pop heaven!
Think The Cure meets James Blake!!!!
This feels fresh and exciting!
Check out The Way We Are above!
Then CLICK HERE to listen to more music from Aiden Grimshaw!
