Head’s up! If you’re expecting to read an unbiased review, this isn’t it. I’ve been a huge fan of Aimee Lay’s for years now. Going back to her days with The Lost and Found, she’s been an impressive singer/songwriter. She’s also lent her prodigious talents to groups such as Wolvez, Bixby Knolls, The Wallburds, and Halfbluud as a backing singer, bassist, and keyboardist. After a spell in these other projects, Aimee Lay is back with her first solo offering, The Other Side Of You EP.

All of the songs are written by Aimee Lay and she plays most of the instruments herself (her Lost & Found band mates assist on two tracks), The Other Side Of You is a solo record in the truest sense of the word. The EP is an impressive display of her songwriting talent and her various influences are proudly on display. A pronounced Velvet Underground influence is meshed with power pop/punk (The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones), and bit of Bob Dylan and The Beach Boys. This isn’t to say she’s a mere copyist. The songs are wholly original and while the influences are apparent, she never resorts to pastiche. It’s just a welcome a relief to hear an artist that doesn’t attempt to conceal their inspirations with mediocrity.

Stand out songs are the Dylan-esque title track, “The Other Side Of You”, the gutsy, self-assured “Whispers All Around Me”, and the VU influenced “Cosmic Exchange”. Hopefully, Aimee Lay will be performing in LA soon and when she does, be sure to check her out. Also, be sure to support this great local talent and buy a copy of the EP. It will not disappoint. - Punk Aristocrats
Go here https://aimeelay.bandcamp.com and listen to the incredible sounds of Aimee Lay. I am blown away. Be sure not to be lazy and listen to one or two songs. You need to hear all 10 songs to really absorb where she's coming from. Super psych rock!! Her writing and voice gives The Black Ryder a run for their money I think. "Heavy Clue After Clue" is, in my mind a true masterpiece of rock and roll poetry. The Velvets WISH they wrote and recorded this. Aimee is "Aimezing"!! Do it.
