Airborne Enemies – Airborne Enemies

With opening track “Wasted Heart” I nearly lost all interest in Airborne Enemies. Libertines sound-a-likes are plentiful, another being less than enticing. Overall the song goes nowhere, suggesting a band who can play, although without real direction or purpose. Fortunately I persevere finding “Streetsmarts” a completely different proposition. Influences are still apparent although a dirtier sound akin to The Gaslight Anthem. The major change however, Airborne Enemies develop cohesion within the song structure furthermore injecting swagger, particularly around the searing lead guitar. The gruff vocal tone fits perfectly within the sound and from nowhere we have a rock n roll band perfectly capable of taking on the Americans at their own game. Both the mid tempo “Thoze Old Days” and “Junkie Love” continue the theme to great effect, with a passing hint towards Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers .

On the Grand National theme, if a gambling man, purely from listening to Airborne Enemies I’d put money on the band being British, but no, these guys are Swedish. Proof once more, Scandinavia continues to provide some of the world’s most genuinely exciting music.

Single Review: Airborne Enemies, Junkie Love av Independent Music News kl. den 20 maj 2011 kl. 12:47

Hello Facebook readers. Yes we don’t have the website up yet, it’s as ongoing as Osama Bin Laden’s capture.......wait a minute. Conspiracies aside today we have a band as punchy as microwavable popcorn. Please put your hands and feet together for Airborne Enemies; it’s going to be a quick, fast paced couple of minutes listening to Junkie Love. The track is going to be as vigorously reviewed as an old person’s analyses of Inspector Morse’s marital status. Let the show begin; get ready for a heck of a ride............on Facebook. Begin:

Junkie Love, eat my blood. Is that a colonized tribe I hear stalking us in the bushes? No you fool it’s the elephant drum beat kicking off the track. As soon as the vocalist shouts his intentions; I feel like I’ve entered the London riot, don’t throw a bin at Prince Charles and Camilla. The guitarist has talent falling out of his hair, like snow driven dandruff. Altogether they work as well as Noah’s Ark; well let’s hope they’ve made one because the world is about to end tomorrow, apparently.

Rate: 10/10
