"Radar: AirLands"

"that sweet spot between widescreen melodic British rock -- we're hearing elements of "Solsbury Hill"-styled Peter Gabriel, Coldplay and Elbow -- and modern American indie pop à la Duncan Sheik." - Direct Current Music

"Album Spotlight"

“Sounding like an astronaut who knows he’ll never make it home, singer Kevin Calaba tells us what he sees, but never how he feels, his voice dreamy and disembodied, hardly comforted by swirling guitar leads. - Billboard Magazine

"Google Antenna Sampler"

The Google Play Music team heard AirLands debut single and reserved the number 4 spot for "Love and Exhale" on their coveted Antenna Sampler, with over 200,000 listeners. - Google Play

"Spotify New Music Tuesday"

Airlands debut record grabs the attention of the editorial and curation team over at Spotify, and lands a spot on New Music Tuesday alongside other rockers like Modest Mouse and Butch Walker. - Spotify

"Best Songs to Download"

"A little bit poppy, a little bit electronic, a little bit dreamy. All together amazing." - New York Post

"8.7 Album Review"

"Like a maestro leading a symphony, he seems to inherently know how and where to inflect his timbre and how to command complete control. It doesn't hurt that the song's sweeping movements are graceful and lush and that the inspiring guitar lines are propulsive and powerful." - Absolute Punk

"Jo-Ann Greene, All Music Guide"

"...the results are quite stunning, as Centuries Before Love and War, a follow-up to their self-produced debut EP, You Came Here for Sunset Last Year, proves. What hasn't changed is the Stars' glimmering, gloomy, shimmering, shambling style, but the electronics allow them to vastly expand their musical palette, add a plethora of shadings and textures to their songs, and evoke rock's rich past." - Billboard Magazine

"Live at the Hawthorne Theatre"

" an Explosions in the Sky-plus-vocals-style rocker with an epic build and breathy, almost frighteningly earnest vocals." - The Oregonian

Bio

Brooklyn based artist AirLands (Kevin Calaba) is just finishing the project’s second studio album in as many years. Produced by Marcus Paquin (The National, Arcade Fire, Local Natives). the New Album is Calaba’s first foray into more up-tempo pop, built atop his expansive indie-rock foundation.

The hybrid is a soaring sound, infused with moments of glitter and mist, resting on the shoulders of the vulnerable lyrical hooks and sturdy song writing for which Calaba has garnered previous acclaim. Newly incorporating etherial vocalist Marlena Calaba, the album’s new sound bridges the gap between familiar British icons (Peter Gabriel, Coldplay) and American indie contemporaries (Bon Iver, Beach House).

AirLands’ 2015 single Love and Exhale from their self-titled debut album was featured on Spotify’s New Music Tuesday, Google’s Antenna Sampler, and landed a placement in the CW’s most-watched series The Vampire Diaries.

Kevin Calaba left Stars of Track and Field and Wind-Up Records in 2010, after 2 full length albums and 7 national tours supporting acts such as Jeremy Enigk, Twilight Singers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Blue October and Joe Arthur. Calaba and the band performed on Conan, and had songs placed in ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and several other network and cable programs and feature films (Kyle XY, Death Sentence, ESPN, One Tree Hill).
