Biography

I am a singer/songwriter/guitarist from Boone, North Carolina. My name is Sarah Evans but I bill myself as Air Sarah, a nickname bestowed upon me in my early years.
My style of songwriting can be most narrowly defined as Folk Rock/Acoustic. In the beginnings I was strongly influenced by the Indigo Girls. It was through their music that I found my rhythm. I enjoyed the strong, simple backing rhythms fronted by clever and poetic lyrics. And then there was guitar school. My travels through the guitar program (1995-2000) had me stupified in a new world of possibility. It was then that I developed a true love for Blues, Jazz, and Classical music. Throughout my college years, I focused more on learning the guitar than writing. And then....Ani Difranco graced me with her presence in music history! That was what I wanted to be. I learned every Ani tune out there, to the note and played them out all over town. That's really when my songwriting began to materialize. I write with emotion, and with conviction. I am brutal with my guitar! My style is percussive with a funky edge. Check it out, if for no other reason than because IT'S FREE!!!!! But hopefully because I've sparked some interest in you. Please feel free to drop me an e-mail at any time. Oh wait, did I say that I can sing too!

That's my bass player in the picture to the left. His name is Jay Williams and he's from Morganton, NC, but you can call him "Maniac". I don't just love Jay because he is indeed a fantastic bassist, and he does have years of experience under his belt. He is also an amazing person! Perhaps one of the best people I've ever known. Trustworthy, sincere, and all that good stuff! He's playing with me currently. We've got a little duo show that we do together and comes across nicely. If you're lucky you might catch Jay in his Flashdance mode, and get to see him pull the air water bucket over his head. Did I tell you that he's funny too?

QUOTE OF THE DECADE:

“Their shows are Fun, Energetic, Soulful, and could very well be habit forming”.

That Is All

Written By: Sarah Ford

How many times can this love end?
Before it's over and over again?
We'd probably be better off as friends.

How many wars must we endure?
Before we know what we're fighting for
Of all my uncertainties, one thing is for sure...I'm yours

When it all falls down
I give you the benefit of the doubt
You may be wrong, but then again
You're with me now
That is all I need to know
That is all

How many times have we drawn the line?
How many limits have we defined?
We make our boundaries and always wake to find...You're mine

When it all falls down
I give you the benefit of the doubt
You may be wrong, but then again
You're with me now
That is all I need to know

How many times have you packed your bags in protest?
And how many times have you pretended not to notice?
Sometimes it's hard to believe the way that you behave
But baby, I'm so glad you stay

When it all falls down
I give you the benefit of the doubt
You may be wrong, but then again
You're with me now
That is all I need to know
You'll stay with me
Don't explain, or label
Unconditionally, unsteardy, unstable,
Over, Underneath
That is all I need to know
That is all
That is all

Sugar

Written By: Sarah Ford Evans

You said you'd love me forever
Until our dying day
But people change their minds,
although they mean well at the time
We can't always mean what we say

We said that we'd go the long haul
What did we have to lose?
Spinning our wheels, cause who said ideas had to be deals
We will what we'll never do
We will what we'll never do

If you share your candy
I will share my wine
We'll leave promising for another time
Cause sugar you can take me up just enough to let me down
And I would still say you were the best
Ride in town

He said he knew some good people
My shortcut, my stepping stone
That's the last I heard, and it always sounded pretty damned obsurd
Frankly I'd prefer ride alone
I'd prefer ride alone

If you share your candy
I will share my wine
We'll leave promising for another time
Cause sugar you could take me up just enough to let me down
And I would still say you were the best
Ride in town

I swear all I did was open up my mouth
I should've known better, but it just came out
"You're the best thing that's happening to me now" is only moments away from a lie

If you share your candy
I will share my wine
We'll leave promising for another time
Cause sugar you could take me up just enough to let me down
And I would still say you were the best
I would still say you were the best
Ride in town!

Still

Written By: Sarah Ford Evans

You don't know what I would give
For you to take my hand
And lend me your companionship
I want to love again

I am so tired of being alone
And the miles and miles between you and my home
Getting most of my attention
By telephone

I'm determined to make it here
Until the good lord calls me away
But what if, in these mountains, I were to disappear
I'm begging you, please, please stay

It is a long haul down the mountainside
Into the hot, steamy city
You decide
I know it's hard to make a living in a small town
But wouldn't it be nice to say we tried? That we tried..

Now I am not afraid to show you more
Strip my sacred body of this cheap decor
Tonight I am in rare form, I'm bare on your floor
I'll show you mine if you show me yours

I know opportunity may be inviting
But that don't mean we've got to pack our bags
You know I personally find it much more exiting
Going from riches to rags

And you know if all else fails
We could just take to the streets
Work for minimum wage
To stay on our feet
We could always drive the AppalCart to make ends meet
To make them meet...

Now I am not afraid to show you more
Strip my sacred body of this cheap decor
Tonight I am in rare form, I'm bare on your floor
I'll show you mine if you show me yours

Now you're wondering how you're gonna pay the bills
And I've got birds chirping in my head, you know you really give me the chills..Standing still...Standing
still

Now I am not afraid to show you more
Strip my sacred body of this cheap decor
Tonight I am in rare form, I'm bare on your floor
I'll show you mine if you show me yours
Oh yeah I'll show you mine if you show me yours

Cost & Consequence

Written By: Sarah Ford Evans

Thoughts of cost & consequence
Reason and rhyme
Chances lost trying to make sense
Of why I feel right, only at the wrong time.

She says "maybe", with uncertainty
But "someday", "somehow"
Oh but baby that ain't no guaruntee
Atleast not now

So I can't help thinking..What about me?
Maybe I deserve more than this
Perhaps, afterall, it is your boat that's sinking
There must have been something I missed
Must have been something I missed

I'll get mine, you mark my words
Soon as I settle up with my mind
I'm gonna get what I deserve
You are good food for my head
But I think, more importantly
I don't really need to be fed
It's my turn to ask you...
What's in this for me?

I have made decisions that I'll always regret
And this is the part that I hate
We both know but often forget
It was too soon, but now it's too late

Thoughts of cost and consequence
Reason and rhyme
Chances lost trying to make sense
Of why I feel right, only at the wrong time

I'll get mine, you mark my words
Soon as I settle up with my mind
I'm gonna get what I deserve
You are good food for my head
But I think, more importantly
I don't really need to be fed
It's my turn to ask you...
What's in this for me?

Bamboo

Written By: Sarah Ford Evans

I can dream you sports cars and sailboats
Islands and bars of bamboo
I can dream you diamonds and fur coats
But I can't have you

I can handle about anything,
Right up to the cold hard truth
Imagining knots are untying
I could never undo.
I could never undo.

I never said I believed I could change your mind
Never thought I saw you sway
I never said it'd be easy to put you behind me
I'm on my best behavior
Cause this woman is all about you baby

I would take you to a perfect party
Celebrate you with my friends
Mingling, intellectual, smarties..
This I can pretend

I can love you, then lose you, then leave you
And find you all over again
I can forget that you ever happened
I can remember when
I can remember when

I never said I believed I could change your mind
Never thought I saw you sway
I never said it'd be easy to put you behind me
I'm on my best behavior
Cause this woman is all about you baby

I'd take you two times over
To make up for what I lack
I'd take you two times further
And then turn back

I have kissed you a thousand 1st times
A thousand 1st times I have said
I love you, I love you in my heart,
Only in my head
Only in my head

I never said I believed I could change your mind
Never thought I saw you sway
I never said it'd be easy to put you behind me
I'm on my best behavior
Cause this woman is all about you baby

Natural

Written By: Sarah Ford Evans

I don't have to sleep in your bed
or fine dine by candle light
Though you know, I'd go out of my head
To make you feel alright

I won't hand you lines that you've never read
Words are worn and trite
But thoughts, I never bought suddenly sound better said
So maybe they'll enlight
Maybe they'll enlight

What makes a natural style?
My baby
What makes the actual seem worthwhile?
My baby
What makes a natural, a natural child?
I tell you my baby, is gonna take me tame and drive me wild

No name to explain my baby's latest gear
No reason, no rhyme
Baby knows, what comes in goes
in less than a year
It's just a waste of time

So are we normal really, or just really wierd?
I ask you sometimes.
Baby thinks there are things that don't appear quite as clear
As those things we recognize
As things we recognize

What makes a natural style?
My baby
What makes the actual seem worthwhile?
My baby
What makes a natural, a natural child?
I tell you my baby, is gonna take me tame and drive me wild
