Bio
AK is a powerful new voice on the New York music scene. Formerly a trained opera singer and a traditional folk singer, AK found her own voice writing about her life on the east coast. Removed from her native California she discovered a love of seasons, deep wonder at the power of winter, wind and rain and the new bonds that form during hurricanes and floods. Her songwriting is full of childlike wonder and her arrangements are rich and dramatic, drawing on her years in the classical music world.
Calling forth visions of the stillness of the Florida swamplands, the magic of swimming in summer lakes in New England and the power in the belief of a friend, AK shows us through the stages of her life thus far, ending in her troubled look for love. These songs are punctuated and enriched by the bands lush instrumentation including piano, violin, clarinet, upright bass, drums, and elaborate vocal harmonies.
