"[LISTEN/DOWNLOAD] AKAGE NO ANNE- PLEASE ENJOY"

While we’re on the topic of bright glitchy electronics, I think you should explore the strangeness that is Toronto’s Akage No Anne’s latest EP Please Enjoy. Luminous instrumentals are strangely paired with dark, goth-punk like vocals but somehow it works. - Ride the Tempo

"MP3: AKAGE NO ANNE – ROBOT PHILOSOPHIES"

We don’t know much, or anything really, about this new Toronto group, but Akage No Anne make very lovely downtempo psychedelic electropop. “Robot Philosophies” features swirling synths, floating guitar licks, and a wonderful wonderful synth bass that maintains the strange groove throughout. Excited about their existence! - Silent Shout

"MUSIC SUBMISSION BY AKAGE NO ANNE"

Based out of Toronto, ON, Akage No Anne (The Japanese name for Anne Of Green Gables) features Continuist alumni Tom Dunbar and Nick White, as well as Yoshi Nakajima. The trio makes lighthearted, lo-fi dream pop perfect for late summer nights and bedside smoking. Their sound hearkens to a more laid back Future Islands, with Dunbar’s crooning vocals floating over jangling guitars and an armada of upbeat synthesizers on tracks like “What Is Right?” This song opens with electronics and guitars working in tandem before the defining lyric of the song, and perhaps the band as a whole, is solemnly murmured: “Find a window with the light on.” “Biology Invitation” is perhaps the most musically interesting of the band’s four current tracks, with the chorus erupting into Modest Mouse-esque shrieks with oriental guitar leads and pounding keyboard chords. The atmosphere of all their songs has an upbeat hue with a touch of melancholy under the surface. As such, Akage No Anne speaks to young angst with the message of searching for belonging, but also with the yearning to not take things too seriously. Bio

Akage No Anne (pronounced Ah-Kah-Gae) is an experimental electro-pop band that formed in August 2014, and has been playing Toronto for the past year.
Yoshihide Nakajima (Osaka, Japan) and Tom Dunbar (Toronto, Canada) come together to form Akage No Anne, which brings forward strange but familiar sounds that contribute to and challenge Toronto's diverse electronic music scene. Japanese grooves blend with indie rock roots, saxophone riffs overlay sampled hip-hop beats to produce Akage No Anne's unique mellow-punk psych-pop sound.
In 2015, Akage No Anne self-released "Please Enjoy", a psychedelic synth pop EP full of floating guitar riffs, catchy beats, and strange grooves.
Akage No Anne are recording and releasing new material in Spring 2016 accompanied by a music video.
