BandComedyAvant-garde

The Akasha Collective is a group of dancers, artists and performers. We specialize in belly dance and ambient themed performances.

Biography

The Akasha Collective has been together since 1997. Although the group has shifted slightly over the years, we have remained a strong group of dancers and artists. We are well versed in many forms of dance but have a specific passion for belly dance, especially American Tribal Style and Tribal Fusion.
We started dancing with Bonney Meyers in Sebastopol, California in 1997, when we were in the 5th grade. Since 2000, we have been choreographing, costuming, and performing original pieces. We performed whenever there was a chance at the veterans building and other local venues. When Tribal Fest, the largest tribal bellydance festival in the United States, was started in 2000, we began performing there annually as well.
We have always been very interested in many forms of dance, and we incorporate any and all dance we study into inventive fusion pieces. Currently, 3 of the original 6 members teach in the Hampshire College Bellydance Collective, which has an average weekly attendance of 25. At Hampshire College, we have performed at many events and shows, including putting on an hour-long, 14 piece, bellydance show.
