A native or Mexico City, Akil Ammar is an independent artist and urban poet . With more than 15 years working in the genre he has worked constantly to elevate the urban alternative genre in his home country and around the world, his hard work has indeed paid off as he is now considered one of the most popular and influential latin American hip hop artists.
Akil Ammar has toured the globe in countires such as the US, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Guatemala. As co-founder of Indiegente, an organization dedicated to uplifting urban arts he has helped forge a viable hip hop scene throughout Mexico, organizing multiple events throughout the year.
He has been awarded a “Premio Chilango” for music, and an “Indi-O-Award” for best hip hop album.
The year 2011 will see the debut of his first US album, where he will undoubtedly capitalize on the excitement, notoriety and established audience created throughout his 15 year career.
