The past year has been one of tributes for Alain Lefèvre. After reviving the Québec Concerto by the late and forgotten André Mathieu-and in doing so restoring that composer’s rightful place in the Canadian Romantic repertoire-he recorded the piece for Analekta. The disc won both a Classical Internet Award in the “Outstanding New Discoveries” category and the Félix for Classical Album of the Year (orchestra and large ensemble), awarded by ADISQ. After more than a year, it is still among the best-selling classical recordings in Canada. Mr. Lefèvre also won Félix awards for Classical Album of the Year in 2001 and 2002 for his recordings of the Mozart Concerto No. 23 and for a Russian program of Rachmaninov’s Moments Musicaux Opus 16 and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. His discography covers a wide-ranging repertoire, including what many critics consider to be the definitive version of the remarkable Piano Concerto by John Corigliano.Alain Lefèvre arouses the enthusiasm of audiences wherever he performs. In addition to appearances at numerous international festivals such as those in Cervantino (Mexico) Epidaurus (Greece), Istanbul (Turkey), and Wolf Trap (U.S.), he took part in a month-long tour of Japan with the Moscow Virtuosi. As a soloist, Mr. Lefèvre has appeared with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London; the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (SWR); orchestras in Hamburg, Wuppertal and Nuremberg; the Detroit Symphony; the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington; the Houston Symphony; the Pacific Symphony; the Toronto Symphony, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal; the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico; and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked with such illustrious conductors as Christoph Eschenbach, Charles Dutoit, Vladimir Spivakov, Yan Pascal Tortelier, and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, as well as with the composers Pierre Max Dubois, Henri Dutilleux and John Corigliano.
