Bio

Alana Grelyak grew up in Chicago, IL. She has been playing the piano since her grandfather found a small organ and presented it to her as a gift at age 2. Since then, she has studied the piano at a high level, having earned a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She has also studied cello and voice and plays a myriad of other instruments on a self-taught basis.

Heavily influenced as a teenager by Sarah McLachlan, Alana pulled away from her classical roots and began writing her own music after graduation. Initially having a fear of singing in public, Alana worked hard to overcome it and has developed an original vocal style that has been described as unique and interesting, with many details.

Her songs are often very personal in nature and touch on topics from personal struggles and fear to love and are even occasionally about her dog (those fall into the love song category, according to her.)

Currently, Alana lives in Chicago as a performing and teaching musician. She also works closely with Bennite Productions, writing the soundtracks for short films. Most recently, she has written tracks for "Guarding the Montalbano," "Matt Pinchy Says Hi," and "Green Vial," the latter of which has been spotlighted at several film festivals including The Midwest Independent Film Festival, Freeky Creek Film Festival, and Indy Incubator in Chicago.

Alana is working on recording some new tracks and is taking accordion lessons with Sam Franco. She is also attempting to make some sort of sound on the trumpet.
