Sarah McLachlan meets Lucinda Williams....Alana's singing and songwriting ranges from intimate folk to pop/rock - and delivers a powerful mix of hearfelt lyrics and memorable melodies.

Biography

Orginally from Ottawa, Ontario, Alana moved to Los Angeles to study at the California Institute of the Arts, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music in the year 2000. Although her primary focus was classical, Alana also excelled in jazz vocals and studied Salsa, East Indian, and Balanese music. These influences contributed greatly to her original music composition. Throughout her stay in Los Angeles, Alana continued to write, record and perform at various clubs around the city. Now based in Toronto, Alana is eager to resume her career as a Canadian singer/songwriter. She states that even though she was happy to have experienced the fast pace of urban Los Angeles, she prefers the vibrant energy of Toronto, and the serenity of Ontario's scenic wilderness.

Lyrics

think me over

Written By: alana kurtis & amy rutherford

verse:
agonize me with your cute little stare
you jerk, you're wearing me thin
you win by pretending you don't really care
you know it's hooking me in
night after night in the bar
you know I'm not here for the beer
I'd rather take you home with me
but I'll keep drinking, as long as you're here

Chorus:
I should walk away
but you'd stay
with me anyway
I'm all alone
while you think me over

Verse:
you're the type they write songs about
and I know that makes you feel good
everyone's trying to figure you out,
you wouldn't change that if you could
how did it get this way?
when did you get so cruel?
how can you let me live this way - this way you stay, you stay, you stay

Chorus:
I should walk away
but you'd stay
with me anyway
I'm all alone while you think me over

Bridge:
If I had just one wish
I wish that I was over this
I'd leave you on a sunday morning
I'd be gone before you wake at three
you'd roll over looking for me

the other woman

Written By: alana kurtis

verse:
I knew from the moment that I saw your face
we'd be together again
it's almost last call
the timing feels right
I don't see her with you tonight
I know we've got this whole routine down
we keep making eyes
when she's not around
you're everything
I should leave behind
but I still want you
cause you'll never be mine
chorus:
so don't run your fingers through my hair
I'm trying hard not to care
if I can't be the one
I'm not going to be the other woman

verse:
do you remember last tuesday night?
the world disapeared when we turned out the light
I dreamed your dreams
you rested my heart in your hands
was this just a fantasy?
a way for me to make believe?
that one day my dreams would come true
I'd be the only girl for you

chorus:
don't run your fingers through my hair
I'm trying hard not to care
If I can't be the one
I'm not going to be the other woman

Wiser

Written By: Alana Kurtis + Amy Rutherford

verse:
It's easier when you go away
I can finally go back home
follow these tracks to the edge of town, disappear into the underground
the truth is I adore you
but loving you is a waste
the thing is you terrify me
cause I can see the world in the lines of your face
Chorus:
but what happens when we get older
you're not the hero you used to be
what happens when the curtain falls down and you see my naked body
I like thinking you're the one for me
but I'm wiser than I used to be
verse:
why is vanity do damn sexy
I love the way you make me feel
I come alive in the reflection of you
I'd risk everything
and throw my life away
but they're is still no telling what you would do
