"Good Wood Review"

Barrington’s music is “introspective, sometimes delicate work, full of personal observations and emotional sketches.” The Observer adds that “Barrington offers nicely crafted folk-pop along the lines of David Wilcox or Pierce Pettis.” - The Charlotte Observer

"Looking for a Novel Review"

Alan Barrington has the ability to capture moments in time and then paint them on a canvas of notes and chords makes his new CD a great addition to any collection.
Perhaps one of the best crafted songs on an album full of great selections is "Circle of Gold". This outstanding song is filled not only with the imagery Barrington is known for, but also the tenderness and understanding of relationships. This could easily become a standard at weddings as well as a favorite with romantics everywhere.
D and M Music believe fans of folk, easy listening, and pop genres will enjoy Barrington's music.

"Looking for a Novel Review"

“Looking for a Novel” by masterful story-teller Alan Barrington is a heart-warming collection of bluesy modern folk tunes. One of the most striking elements of “Looking for a Novel” is the fact that its lyrics read like a best-selling novel! Tales of everyday experiences and love-searching are told in the most compelling way possible – poetic passion. What’s more, Alan Barrington’s strong, controlled, and affectionate vocals are perfect for this genre. “Better than a Week in the Country” veers to a country rock sound that is delightfully energetic and hook-ridden – showing off Alan’s diversity. “You Believed in Me” stands out as an emotion-provoking modern folk song that is spiritually enlightening. Moreover, the production of “Looking for a Novel” successfully turns these story-book tales into country hits! Fans of James Taylor and Lyle Lovett will find a new modern folk home in these delightful tunes! - Xavier P. and RadioIndy

Barrington has the ability to sing a tune and write a song that paints such a specific moment in time. This artist is sure to make his mark as a triple threat- songwriter, singer and storyteller. He also is a regular at the Charlotte Symphony Summer Pops Series.

Alan Barrington was born the 3rd youngest of four children in Lynwood California. Raised in nearby Downey California, he was nine when his father taught him how to play guitar. Due to a very turbulent home life he found himself on the streets of Los Angeles at the age of fifteen, living from house to house with a variety of friends, whose parents were kind enough to take him in until he graduated from high school. Barrington studied music in college while performing in churches and clubs to earn extra money. In his twenty's he landed a one song publishing deal with Maranatha Records for the song Old Age. It was released as a compilation LP in 1980 which also featured Richie Furay of the group Poco, Leon Patillo of Santana, and Bob Bennett. Barringtons single, Old Age, received extensive radio airplay throughout the US and Canada.

Now based in South Carolina, Barrington has brought his unique acoustic new folk and blues sound to audiences throughout the country. He has been credited with creating heartfelt and well-written songs which are sung in an immaculate voice, one which is capable of encompassing both his native West Coast and adopted East Coast southern charm.
