"Music News Scotland"

"Love the album, great music. An absolute pleasure to listen to.''
- Carol Cunningham

"Sunday Mail"

"The Ayrshire-based singer/songwriter's album is gentle and uplifting. Go Easy has gentle guitar strumming. Female backing vocalists deserve a mention and former Speedway singer Jill Jackson shines on Denise. A laid-back folk/pop album that's worth checking out''. ( Pick of the week ) - Avril Cadden

"Sunday Express"

"Troon troubadour Alan’s debut is a gentle gem. He has a bit of the Elliot Smiths about him on his more reflective moments, then when he really picks his guitar, it’s Nick Drake and Newton Faulkner who are his benchmarks''. - David Esson

"Sunday Herald"

OPENING and closing his debut album with different versions of the same track, Running Blind, Troon's Alan Frew clearly sets out his career ambitions and songwriting abilities and, in between, shows what he can deliver.

When he plugs in (as on Denise and the opener), there's a commercial strength to his work that follows a direct line back to the likes of Del Amitri and Aztec Camera in the 1980s.

These days there's no shortage of singer-songwriters self- releasing their CDs on the internet, but Frew stands out from the coffee shop crowd, particularly when Jill Jackson steps in on backing vocals (he's a staple feature of her band). Overall, the album sits back on a relaxed beat (are those maracas? ) and a pillow of vocal harmonies, creating a sound that's easy to listen to, without dismissing it as easy listening.

- Alan Morrison
