"Randy Coker : Promoter"

From Randy Coker

Dear Robyn,

Thank you very much for putting me on to Alan. We saw his show on Saturday -- His performance was simply great ... What a talent and what a performer! His show was by far the highlight of the weekend for me!

I'd be very interested in having him at Live in the Village. He reminded me of why I do this in the first place.

"Solo Blues At Cav' Conc'"

Alan Gerber: Solo blues at the Cav' Conc'

Another bluesman, another American, and another strong personality.

Decidedly, after the very authentic Glory Hogs concert of a couple of weeks ago, the Cav'conc' welcomed, last saturday, another wild and crazy American, Alan Gerber.

That said, even through his influences are surely blues (he comes from Chicago) passing through rock and ballads this man goes beyond the Glorious Hogs and their classic, traditional blues. Alan Gerber is in a league by himself. Although, he is alone on stage with his instruments: piano, synthesizer of many sounds, guitar, etc., we have heard he has played alongside the greatest (Bob Dylan, Lou Reed...).

This is understandable in the way Gerber associated perfect technique with an uncanny stage presence. The communication with the audience leaves no room for non-participation. Saturday night, through the raspy textures of his voice, we were moved from one emotion to another, from hilariously absurd stories to moving unusual ballads. One of a kind!

"Alan Gerber at the Resto Blues Bar"

Alan Gerber at the Resto Blues Bar

DAZZLING!

Barely back from his three-month tour in France, Alan Gerber came to dazzle the spectators at the Resto Blues Bar in St-Sauveur last Sunday. Until the early morning, this self-taught musician presented his one-man-show of blues, moving ballads, rock and constant dialogue with the audience. An impressive show where the mastery of so many instruments (piano, synthesizer, slide-guitar, violin, concertina) is almost dizzying. Residing in Val David, Alan Gerber hails from Chicago where he made his first appearances. He has toured North America with such greats as Janis Joplin, B.B King, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Moody Blues, Chuck Berry, Rod Stewart, Frank Zappa... He was on tour with Bob Dylan's "Rolling Thunder Review" and through the states with Lou Reed. Alan's hit single "Tied On", produced by André Perry in Montreal, was #1 on the Quebec hit parade. For the past 10 years, he has been producing his "one-man-show" through Canada, the United States and Europe.
Alan will be back in mid-June. - La ValléE

"Alan Gerber At The Gambetta Theater"

Alan Gerber at the Gambetta Theater

To laugh or to cry.

It is Wednesday night and the count of shows at the Gambetta Theatre, to date, would take four hands. All the better to applaud this show. The acid humour known to those who despair and to those who love life, the starry burst of laughter welling deep from within, this complete, sensitive musician, Alan Gerber, transcends his own restlessness and moves us in shades of blues.

Through an intimate evening, this blues man from Chicago (living in Quebec) kept the intensity growing until the audience was at fever pitch. To thank Alan Gerber fot this memorable evening would be acknowlodging only part of the man. A man who has learned that foresight and willpower, love of his art and respect for others are, without a doubt, and expression of deep humanity and the best way to keep oneself intact.

Whether he is playing his instruments (piano, synthesizer, slide guitar, violin, accordion) singing his excellent compositions of wonderful interpretations of well-known standards, Alan Gerber is an imposing artist.

We will wait for this return to Carcassonne when even more people will benefit from these precious moments. We must thank all those who made this possible.

Bio

Strap on your boogie-woogie shoes, hold on and get ready ... Alan Gerber has arrived! This eccentric entertainer is wowing audiences internationally. His amalgamation of boogie-woogie, stunning vocal interpretations and fine musicianship make Gerber an artist of the highest order. His show is exhilarating and captivates audiences of all demographics placing him in high demand to festivals, clubs and theaters nationally, He has participated in major events such as: The Montreal Jazz Festival, Ottawa Blues Festival, Fort Lauderdale Blues Festival, Totonto HarbourFront Blues, Carcassonne Music Festival & many more. When Alan moved to Chicago to begin work for the "Let Us Entertain You" Network, he developed a one-man show to fulfill his need to create his own brand of music -- blues, meets gospel, meets boogie-woogie. Gerber's incredible energy and outrageous stage antics began to blossom and promptly, he established a faithful following. In 1994, he produced and released "Chicken Walk". He followed that up with "Fools That Try" in 1997 and "The Boogie Man" in 1999. When demand for a live CD began to surface, Alan took the studio on the road and produced "Alan Gerber Live" in 2002. This CD captured his live performance energy and audiences and buyers were quick to stand up and take notice. "Alan Gerber Live" showcased Gerber in all areas of his art. He produced the recording, wrote and performed the songs, and played all instruments on this CD. Gerber is poised and ready for international success. Alan's professional career began when he entered a music program at Roosevelt University in 1965. Producer Paul Rothchild (The Doors, Paul Butterfield, Janis Joplin...) discovered Alan's talent and soon he was a singer, songwriter and keyboardist for a group to become known as Rhinoceros. The release of two albums on the Elektra label brought Rhinoceros to tour North America with such names as Janis Joplin, BB King, Jefferson Airplane, Traffic, Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf, John Lee Hooker, Jeff Beck and others. Alan left Rhinoceros and released his first solo effort in 1971 with Shelter Records and the worldwide distribution of this recording earned him a tour with Leon Russell. In 1974 the release of the single "Tied On" (produced by André Perry) went to number one on Québec radio and Alan toured the province in the wake of its success. Gerber placed two songs on the soundtrack of Bob Dylan's movie "Renaldo and Clara", performed at Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue and toured with Lou Reed in the United States. Alan Gerber - songwriter, vocalist, musician, producer, comic, actor. He is an enigma...can there really be that much talent in one man?

"Seeing Alan Gerber perform live is a joyous experience. You can tell he loves to be in front of an audience and truly whips them into frenzy. He's amazing!" -- Holger Peterson
