The Alan Gresik Swing Shift Orchestra is Chicago's most critically acclaimed Big Band. Since 1998, it has been packing Chicago's historic Green Mill jazz club, with its mix of Big Band, swing music and comedic banter in a recreated old-time radio show that brings vintage Chicago back to life.

Biography

The Alan Gresik Swing Shift Orchestra performs the swinging, jumping music of the 30s and 40s and presents it as if part of an old time radio show, complete with an emcee, actors, engaging banter and spoof era commercials. The combination of music and its era-flavored presentation have made the band an icon on the Chicago music scene.

Every Thursday night since 1998, the band has packed Chicago's historic Green Mill jazz lounge for an experience unlike anywhere else in Chicago. The band was featured in the MGM movie "Return to Me," performed at the Midsummer Night Swing Series at the Lincoln Center in New York, the Chicago Jazz Fest and has opened for such entertainers as Bob Newhart.

The band can add dancers in vintage era as part of the show or to provide dance lessons and/or dance with guests. For private events, the band can perform contemporary music in addition to its Big Band repertoire. See the song list for specifics. Customized commercials can also be created to integrate the band more into an event.

The band has exclusive access to more than 26,000 arrangements from the Balaban & Katz library. It performs such standards as "In the Mood" and "Sing, sing, sing" to songs that haven't been performed in 70 years. If you are looking for entertainment for a casino night or 20s or vintage Chicago party, the band is a perfect choice.
