Alan first learnt piano at primary school and completed up to grade five in the Royal School of Music exams. He began to teach himself guitar from about age 11. He began composing during the later years of secondary school and has found this to be his greatest passion and most natural talent.

Alan attended university for two years studying music and majoring in classical guitar. During this creative period he joined the band Medusa as lead vocalist and guitarist. Medusa performed many of his original compositions and went on to win the Wellington battle of the bands. They were awarded recording time and radio and television coverage.

Alan has now had 30 years experience in the music industry, which has also included solo performing, working with Tongue & Groove, Auckland’s premier function Band. During these years he performed for numerous corporate clients and celebrities such as TVNZ, Fletcher Challenge, Coca-Cola, The Auckland Blues and The Radio Awards.

From here Alan formed his own company Impact Soundtracks. He set up his own home based recording studio and spent the next five years promoting his services in the field of advertising by composing jingles for radio and television. For many years he has also worked either part of full time as a guitar teacher, where he developed a unique and playful style of teaching children.

Alan is an experienced composer who has composed in a diverse range of musical styles including adult contemporary, folk, rock, easy listening, pop, jazz, country, R&B, new age and inspirational. He also has a strong interest in writing for musicals and children’s projects.

Alan is currently focusing on recording a selection of his songs to send to publishers. He has also recently begun marketing two of his albums over the internet. One of the albums is in the genre of adult contemporary instrumental and the other is a new age inspirational album.
