 Los Angeles, California, USA
BandRockSinger/Songwriter

"The very best Folk-Funk-Acid-Jam-Classic-Modern-Rock band around... The real deal"

Biography

Alan Morphew and The Hit was born in the Spring of 2009. Morphew's latest CD, The American Dream, was receiving critical praise, nationwide radio airplay, multiple songwriting contest awards, and a "best album" nomination in the 2009 Los Angeles Music Awards.

A powerful vocalist, trained by L.A.'s best and with a long list of credits including his vocal work on Neil Young's "Living With War" CD, Alan was looking for the right band. Spending most of the year at his home in NW Iowa, nearby Minneapolis seemed to be a natural place to find the right players to complete the package. Enter guitarist Peter Dotson, and drummer Mariano Flores.

The band worked through the spring rehearsing exciting new versions of favorites from Morphew's critically acclaimed CDs as well as a very impressive list of crowd-pleasing cover songs. "We wanted to keep it all pretty high energy and danceable but still offer a wide range of music so that there is something for everyone. Most people enjoy a variety of good music so it makes sense to us to keep that in mind when choosing cover songs to play."

The 3 piece core of the band also works with additional musicians and is available to perform as a 3 to 7 piece band.

"Hard to find a band that plays with this much style", "Amazing", "Nice mix of tunes for all tastes", "a fun night of listening and a great party band" were among the comments heard after a recent performance.

"I'm really happy to be working with these guys. It's been a pleasure and very inspiring to me" says Morphew. And he is not alone in his opinion. The band is an instant hit whenever they play. And I think you will agree.

Lyrics

Daniel Lincoln

Written By: Alan Morphew

Daniel Lincoln worked ‘til the day he died for a slice of American Pie.
Yeah, a little piece of the American Dream.
He worked day in, day out throughout the week,
Didn’t even give himself enough time to sleep.
Yeah, couldn’t even make time to sleep.

We are young, we are old. In the body, in the soul.
We are rich and we are poor. But never less and never more.
Times are up, times are down. Time to turn it all around.
Oh, keep your head up and never give up.

Measured his life in dollar bills, so happiness was only an acquired skill yeah, whoa and nothin’ real.
Daniel woke up one day and saw they’d pretty much taken it all away.
Yeah, so he took a little time away.

We are young, we are old. In the body, in the soul.
We are rich and we are poor. But never less and never more.
Times are up, times are down. Time to turn it all around.
Oh, keep your head up and never give up.

'Cause nothin’s left when hope is gone. Nothin' left for holdin’ on.
Nothin’ left but the company store. This ain’t the town you ever knew before.
Oh, this town is many things but it ain’t no place to die.
And now you tell me the well’s run dry.

Daniel woke up one day and saw they’d pretty much taken it all away.

We are young, we are old. In the body, in the soul.
We are rich and we are poor. But never less and never more.
Times are up, times are down. Time to turn it all around.
Oh, keep your head up and never give up.
(Repeat chorus.)

Better With You

Written By: Alan Morphew

So here we are, against all the odds
Gathered friends and family for the blessings of the gods.
If I could do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing.
This lucky man has this time won
Love like he’s never seen that’s shining brighter than the sun.
If I could do it all again, I’d be right here, right now.

So look in my eyes, you are mine
I’m yours tonight, and right until the end of time.
I’m sure of this. I sure am true. You sure are mine, I sure am…
I sure am better with you.

We said a pond, maybe a tree.
A little air to breathe and music like a symphony.
And all the people in our lives would make the day complete.
This perfect scene you’ve built for me,
To stand right here before you and receive my bride-to-be,
When you just walked up to me, it was the most beauty… that I have ever seen

So look in my eyes, you are mine
I’m yours and you’re the one that I could never leave behind.
I’m sure of this. I sure am true. You sure are mine, I sure am…
I sure am better with you.

You’ve made me a better man
In just so many ways, I hope someday you’ll understand
But if tomorrow I awoke to find you were not there,
I’d curse the day you left my side.
But you know I’d think about you every day and every night.
And I would still give thanks for all we have today if it was gone away.

And I look in your eyes, see your smile
I know what I see right now is gonna last a while.
I sure am right, I sure believe. I’m sure in love…
So look in my eyes, you are mine
I’m yours tonight, and right until the end of time.
I honor that, I’m sure it’s you, I’m sure in love, I’m sure I do…
I sure am better with you.

Cryin' Shame

Written By: Alan Morphew

She used to paint her pictures of how it all could be
Then she saw the scene on the T.V. screen
Locked the door and tossed the key.

He was there for something we didn’t understand
Like the men out in the driveway with a letter in hand.

Hey Ma, did you figure it out?
Cause I’d hate to tell you what it’s all about.
Said it all was done, then they took your son.
Now he’s gone away.

And she said, “It’s a cryin’ shame. I don’t want your letter.
It’s not a game. Will you ever understand?
This life you seem to want for me forever,
It’s a cryin’ shame.”

Now shock turned to anger, but grief don’t ever go away.
Went to see someone responsible, hear what he had to say.
They know how to explain it. And they’re still out at the door.
But we read it in the Memo and we knew it all before.

Hey Ma, I can hear you cry.
And we may just keep cryin’ on together.
Cause it’s never all done, but that’s the same as your son.
He’ll live on and on. On and on.

It’s a Cryin’ shame. I don’t want your letter.
It’s not a game. Will you ever understand?
This life you seem to want for me forever,
It’s a cryin’ shame.

Hey Ma, I’m glad you figured it out.
Wouldn’t want to have to tell you what it’s all about.
Cause it’s never all done. There goes another son.
He’ll live on and on till all days are done.
Don’t pull inside. Turn on the light.
You brighten the corner of our darkest night.
And when it all is said and done, it must be said.
It all must be done.

It’s a Cryin’ shame. I don’t want your letter.
It’s not a game. Will you ever understand?
This life you seem to want for me forever,
It’s a cryin’ shame.
A Cryin’ shame. I don’t want your letter.
It’s not a game. Will you ever understand?
This life you seem to want for me forever.
It’s a cryin’ shame.

… A cryin’ shame ooh… it’s a cryin’ shame,
A Cryin’ Shame!

All For A Song

Written By: Alan Morphew

All For A Song

Threw my job and cares away
Parted out the Chevrolet
Took a chance and seized the day
In search of something more
'Cause I had done all that I can
And felt like a dying man
And if you never make a stand
Just what do you stand for?

All for a song, 'til it was gone
I gave it all away for a song
The time was right
The price was wrong
I gave it all for a song

Took it back to what was me
Threw out the records and T.V.
And the 1973 convertible got sold
I was tired of losing the game
Some of you might feel the same
So every time you hear my name
Remember I gave it all

All for a song, 'til it was gone
I gave it all away for a song
The time was right
The price was wrong
I gave it all for a song

You feel a little stranger
Every time you fall
Look in the eyes of the danger
You can free your mind and
Fulfill your soul
You can have it all

It was just a Chevrolet
I don’t miss it anyway
'Cause I’m feeling free today

All for a Song, 'til it was gone
I gave it all away for a song
The time was right
The price was wrong
I gave it all for a song
All for a song, 'til it was gone
I gave it all away for a song
The time was right
The price was wrong
I gave it all
Gave it all for a song
Yeah, and this is my song

Fortunate Johnny

Written By: Alan Morphew

Just off of Main Street above the railroad tracks
Up the stairs and through the door, you won’t be the same when you come back.
Fortunate Johnny, buyin’ older brother’s friends
Sayin’ “Every day, like the 4th of July, it’s flyin’ high time again.”

Fortunate Johnny Lucky. Yeah I saw the man last Fall.
Fortunate Johnny Lucky wasn’t so lucky after all.

I should have seen it coming. I should have known as well.
That’s a sad song you’ve been humming and now I can’t see a way out of your hell.

Shootin’ round the corner or Shootin’ up the stairs.
Shootin’ your mouth off gets you in trouble, and Shootin’ your toe off can get you cleared.
Every Mother’s nightmare’s but the schoolboy’s desire.
But just look out if you’ve got a sweet tooth, or you’ll set every night on fire.

Fortunate Johnny Lucky. Oh yeah I heard he made the news again.
Fortunate Johnny Lucky. Never lucky, no he’s never been.

I should have seen it coming. I should have known as well.
That’s a sad song you’ve been humming and now I can’t see a way out.
I should have seen it coming. I should have known. I should have known as well.
That’s a sad song you’ve been humming and now I can’t see a way out.
And now I can’t see a way out.
Yeah, now I can’t see a way out of your cell.
